Dudes from Montana just can't throw hard.

I had a Pontiac Montana. It wasn't very fast either.

I hear that Hannah Montana chick's pretty fast once you get her all liquored up.

She'll give you a backdoor slider if you're not careful.

How does that make any more sense?
The first is an attempt, albeit a misguided one, to understand the game better.

The second is just goofing around - something your alien computer brain apparently cannot process.

Sorry, I'm still picturing a knuckleball in the 90s....that ****'s unhittable.  No wonder that guy is so good.
Wouldn't a knuckleball thrown that fast be less effective? There'd be almost no flutter to it.

Why would they give each player a name? Same reason. Aesthetics.

"Aesthetics" can mean any number of a hundred things.

The obvious answer is that they added pitch names to add to our experience in some minimal way.
Actually, if you go tothe dictionary, it means one thing.

Having a definition doesn't decrease the vagueness.

I assumed you didn't mean that it pleased the senses, because that would prove my point that it adds something to our enjoyment.

Wearing green shirts might be more asthetically pleasing in a visual sense.  Doesn't make you a different person than if you wore brown shirts.

Just like having "knuckleball" listed on the player's card for aesthetic reasons doesn't make a pitcher a "true knuckleballer".

He is a true knuckleballer who throws 96 MPH!!!
4/4/2011 2:04 PM
Also I'm trying to figure out if this is the worst, or best thread ever. But I feel like it's definitely one of those two.
4/4/2011 2:05 PM
The answer to that is...does this true knuckleballer also throw left and play second base?
4/4/2011 2:10 PM
If you moved a true knuckleballer to 2B, would he still be a true knuckleballer?
4/4/2011 2:15 PM
If a true knuckleballer fell in the forest, and no one was around to hear it, would it be 96 MPH?
4/4/2011 2:23 PM
Only if it was listed on his player card in order to make the game more FUN!!!!

Where do pitch types rate on the FUN!!!! scale?

It does if you're wearing a brown shirt because Mussolini told you to.
