I have a guy in the playoffs now, who is recovering at the same rate as he was all year. He did not experience a drop off in recovery what so ever.

I will start tracking this on my other team (45 games in)

If I am wrong, I want to know about it, and will share the results gladly right or wrong.
Doesn't mean a thing.   Like most of us, you've left 100% IP on the table.  My guess is virtually no one maximizes innings pitched.

If tec wanted to prove his theory, he'd take his ace in Coop, pitch him every time he hit 100% in ST and the regular season and report back to us.   Bet he doesn't do that.
This season I brought up a prospect at roster expansion and went to a 6 man rotation, so yeah that may be a factor.

Good.  Don't forget.   And don't use them at 93% to be "right".    Also, keep in mind that it's not IP but pitches thrown.   You'll be able to check previous season's pitches for the regular season but not ST.   Nonetheless, I think it's safe to assume that they weren't pitching every 5th day in the previous ST.

The four SP:

Carlos Olivares 5 5 3 0 0 0 0 1 0 4 1.46 4.45 8.31 1.87 0.00 135 508 102 3.76
Courtney Guerrero 4 4 4 0 0 0 1 1 0 6 0.97 3.21 4.18 1.30 0.00 114 406 102 3.56
Mel Pall 5 5 2 0 0 0 1 1 0 3 0.96 4.21 5.96 1.42 0.00 111 402 80 3.62
John Takahashi 4 4 4 0 0 0 0 0 0 4 1.43 1.80 6.30 3.50 0.00 105 378 95 3.60
At what point should I see a decrease in their availability do you think?  73 games in and they are running very smoothly - exactly like last season.  They all hit 100% the day before their start (sometimes more than a day) and are averaging the same number of pitches as above...

ST is only 18 games long.    I can't imagine much happening before game 140 or so.   IOW, when they near their total pitches thrown from last season, you might see something.

Right now, I am feeling that your theory may be incorrect.  But we shall see...

On a tangent - what is the benefit of giving a 29 year old any spring training playing time?

WifS has said "rust" exists.   I kind of doubt it.   So, really, none.

I have seen rating drops for veterans who don't get into any spring training game. Not certain what the trigger is here, as I always play vets who matter and only occasionally let a veteran bench player get through an entire spring training without at least a few games played.

Not 29 year olds.

Older guys, yes.  Thats why i specificly said 29 - they don't drop.

Yeah, I never cared enough to notice their ages, so maybe.

It's like any older player who doesn't play - he gets worse much quicker.

I guess I'll keep playing the 29 year olds if WifS says there's a "rust factor." Meh.

I've also been told that the chances of a 0 power guy hitting a HR were "1 in 1,000,000,000" or about a million times what the chance would be in real life.  Then they changed the engine...

In short, they say a lot that isn't true.

The last 5-6 seasons,I've started not playing my over 30 players at all in ST and have yet to see a negative opening day "bump"

I asked.  I was told:

Christopher,

Currently, there is no concept of rust factor in HBD.

So....ok then.

In terms of prospect development, I know that the more ABs the get the more they develop (all other things like make-up aside). Is it advisable to play your best prospects a lot in Spring Training? Other than injury issues and possibly becoming more fatigued later down the road if they are positional players, is there any reason not to do this? Do Spring Training ABs have less of an impact on prospect development than in-season ones? I've always played my ML positional starters for 3-5 games and given my starting 5 a single start and then brought in my prospects just to see how they do against ML-ish talent and to help development.
