How does the engine figure errors by fielders? Say I have a SS with 90 range and an 83 glove, is he more likely to make an error than a SS with an 83 range and an 83 glove?

Only because he'll get to more balls.

Wouldn't the 90 range have more plus plays but not necessarily more errors?

Can someone explain how the engine handles defense. I remember in one world several seasons ago I was forced to use a really bad defensive player (probably a DH or a C) in LF for about 60 games and the guy never made an error. Granted his range was awful as compared to other LFs in the world but still no glove no errors. Maybe he was just picking the ball up after it hit the ground or something but...

In that case, your team was probably giving up a great deal of hits to LF.  Your C that was playing LF was probably raking in a great deal of minus plays, and his range factor must have been lower than the average for LF.  Could you post a link to that player?

Two guys both have an 83 glove, so in theory they should have the same % of errors for all balls they can get to and field.
The guy with the 90 range will get to more balls, and thus have more errors. You are correct that he also will have more + plays.

I think this is spot on.
