Kobe is now - Lakers window is now - youth moves is not now

and bench player is not what I had in mind - starting PG who isnt a corpse makes the Lakers tons better by being a positive in place of a soul sucking negative

Sessions for a #1
Ariza for a #1

let's roll

Garnett and Pierce

for

Boozer, Deng, Asik?

I wouldn't do that if I'm the Celtics, because I don't really think the new team is a contender (though it would be closer to one going forward) and I wouldn't want to ruin the cap space and flexibility to not be a real legit contender.

Now if New Orleans is really willing to give up a lottery pick for Okafor, I'd do something like JO, Wilcox, and Johnson (maybe even bradley) for Okafor and the unprotected (or top 3 protected) first.  You give up the cap space but you get a high pick that might become a future star.  That is a move that makes sense, especially since Okafor is still a fairly solid player and would actually make the team better this season.

doesnt Wilcox have a heart problem?

yeah, but he is just being used as necessary salary and the league could waive the physical to make the trade go through.  Celtics can send some cash to cover his contract if that is an issue.

the league could do that? wouldnt that represent some sort of conflict?

well last year they dealt marquis daniels to the kings after he got hurt to help them fill the salary minimum.

my impression is that failed physicals only matter when a player is acquired with the intention of using him on the court.

i'd take on okafor if he comes with a lottery pick.  also wouldn't mind taking on petro + farmar to get the rockets' 1st rounder from the nets.

are teams really making these cheap *** punk moves just to save money? is this the way it's going to be now?

another in the long line of exactly why stern is the most over-rated commissioner in the history of major pro sports
3/13/2012 12:11 PM
actually the Lakers should call the Nets and use the TPE to get that done
3/13/2012 12:13 PM
seriously
3/13/2012 12:14 PM
i agree, it's a great deal for whoever gets it.  farmar is prob gonna opt out after this year anyway, since he's playing like he's in a contract year.  petro is dogshit but adding a good backup PG (or not as bad starter as Fish) and a mid 1st rounder at the price of absorbing Petro's $3.5M cap figure next year is great for anybody who gets it.

rumor i heard was that they wanted to do that deal for diaw's expiring contract.  idk if they actually want diaw in the rotation or what, but it seems like a big overpay to dump some not so bad salaries.

and obviously the nets are all-in on the deron williams + dwight plan so it's not so much about saving money as it is maximizing their cap room to whip together a quality team next summer.  they'd also save a bit of money by not having to pay the 1st round pick.

I think the offense brown wants to run is much better suited to farmar's game than the triangle was and we'd be basically paying nothing for a pick and petro comes off the books prior to the tax nasty in 2014 anyway

worst case scenario we rent Farmar and get some front court depth and get a pick for our pains

I think the Nets want someone that can help them this year, but that expires.   Even if they don't land Howard they are just 4.5 games out of the playoffs and I think they want to make them (if for no other reason to get the financial boom).  The first rounder and salary relief next year is a small price compared to the money they would make making the playoffs.
