It appears that Doc Rivers called Ray Allen and told him he was traded to Memphis for OJ Mayo and a 1st but that deal fell apart about 20 minutes later and that Pierce to NJ for Okur and the lottery pick almost happened as well.  I would have been fine with each of those trades even though this recent surge probably doesn't happen without Pierce.

Forgetting our recent surge, I would have been very pleased with getting NJ's pick out of Pierce.  Think Mayo + Memphis's pick for Ray is pretty meh, but worth accepting once Pierce has already been shipped.

I would have done Allen regardless of Pierce.  That is a good deal for a guy that was never going to be back next year

I think what deano's saying is that it's not a good enough deal to give up on this season....unless you've already given up on this season.

yeah exactly.

mayo is AIDS and gaining a 3rd pick in the 20's is hardly a big deal.

I don't think trading Allen in that deal was giving up on the season.  He had already missed some time due to injury and Bradley had been taking some of his minutes for awhile.  It was clear that Allen was slowly getting phased into a bench and lesser role on the team.  Mayo provides a lot of athleticism and is a different kind of offensive player, but I think he would have fit well as the 6th man for the Celtics going forward and there wouldn't have been much if any at all drop off.

Uh yeah if Rondo even hit like 80% of his FT's that would be huge.

He could get to the line 4 or 5 times a game if he wanted to, but he knows he sucks so he doesn't actively try to draw contact.  Even w/o more attempts the difference between 80% and 60% over 3.5 FTA/game is pretty significant- an extra 0.7 ppg adds up to an extra 2 wins and change over the course of an 82 game season which isn't negligible.
It'd be nice of course, but ft's seem to be one of those things that players have a hard time improving upon.  Maybe he should try a granny shot!!

Yeah, Rondo has no shot in hell of being an 80% shooter, he probably will not improve much (if at all) over the rest of his career.

An ultra rare triple post!

You really think they're just going to beat Philly easily?

I don't think it will be easy but Boston should beat Philly (in 5 or 6) the way the teams have been playing, of course that presumes a relatively healthy Pierce, which is far from a given.
