How many max contract guys do you think are in the NBA right now?

that was in reference to the old JJ thread that went on for months as to whether he would earn/deserved his old contract when he got it - i was the ONLY pro-JJ person, some were on the fence, others angrily anti-JJ

5 year contract numbers

GS 376 of 410 - averaged 21.7/4.4/5.5 - 47.9 from 2, 36.9 from 3, 80.5 from the line - at an average of 13 mil a season

4 AS games, last 3 years in the PS

JJ turns 29 next month - not even sure he deserves a max contract (5 yrs - 29,30,31,32,33 - the last 2 years could be very pedestrian)

the Hawks did it right for once - they signed a guy clearly on the uptick - i actually hope they don't offer him the max

right now - i would say there are probably 20 or so max guys - some for what they have done and will continue to do, others for what they will do

I for one don't think he's a max player. My guess is that someone will pay him that - the Hawks or Knicks seem most likely - and then start to regret it in 2-3 seasons.

I was totally on your side with respect to the contract.

I just thought it was dumb that the Hawks decided to ship over Diaw and a 1st rounder when the Suns clearly had no intent of matching.

Didn't he get a max deal last time? 5 for 70 or whatever it was? Also, my argument was that he got the contract that he did 5 years ago because he was the best/top 2 or 3 of a very weak FA class.

Call me cheap but unless you think a guy is going to be the best player on a championship team over the duration of the contract, you don't need to be paying him max money.

in other words at a time like last night a max deal player might have bothered to show up - if JJ were Melo or Kevin Durant would 19pts on 35% shooting in a loss in a key game be anything but a huge flaming disappointment? he took like 2 shots in the 4th quarter as the Hawks gave up their lead and the Magic pulled away. You think that's worth the max?
