would you play this guy as your starting shortstop? http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=6043145

As always, it depends on your other options.   He's subpar enough where I'd need a bigger bat to justify it.   But, if you've got some defensive wizard with an OPS of .400, it depends on your pitching.    They have to be able to work thru his defensive inabilities.

is 29 HRS and 90 RBI a big enough bat? His ratings are a few points below what you'd like in your SS, but not much? How much difference can a few points make? I could sign this guy: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=4260805 but hye can't hit for ****. Does his slightly higher fielding ratings make up for the 29 HRs and 90 RBIs the first guy can give me?

On his career, he's cost you about 30 plays as compared to an average defensive SS.   That's not as bad as I expected.   I'd use him if my pitching staff could carry the extra innings.

How do convert "cost plays" in a way to compare to RC? How do you factor your PPS as a defense runs cost to compare against offensive RC?

It's very complicated.

No, not really.    I look at my average RC27.   I look at the player's PPPS and compare it to the "average" player at his position.    If my player is below both, I have to make a change.  Unless I'm winning anyway.   It's mostly an eyeball test after looking at the data.

Did you know that a guy I know is one of the "Second Chance" players selected last night for the next season of Survivor?

How many pitchers do you typically carry in your starting rotation in the playoffs? and how many total pitchers do you carry?
5/21/2015 9:52 AM
I did not.   Didn't watch the recap.  The Ultimate Fighter was against it.

I usually run a 3 man rotation in the playoffs.   I might have to spot start a 4th if the 7 games series get extended.   I try to run with 8-9 but, if the first 2 series get extended, I may have to add another for the CS.

And I was thinking 10-11 pitchers might not be enough lol.

Unless your staff is super loaded, you don't want 10-11 pitchers actually pitching in the playoffs.   You're better off carrying specialty guys(d-spec, power VL, etc, etc.).   And that is not a question.

If you are feeling in the giving mood, I have two questions for you...

First, what do you think of this IFA? If you had the most money to spend in your world, would you blow your wad on this guy? We are at the amateur draft.

Lorenzo Polanco (Age: 21), $14M International Budget
*Ratings with $10M Advanced Scouting
Ovr (72/85), PC (0/0), Dur (29/31), Hth (94/94), Mup (75/84), Sta (65/75), Con (75/88), LH (71/88), RH (68/82), Vel (42/47), GB (72/76), 1P (73/83), 2P (74/74), 3P (64/69), 4P (55/61), 5P (34/34)

Second, which player in this trade do you prefer? (assume all else is equal)?
*Ratings with $10M in Advanced Scouting

Before you start being generous with jmarkey, may I ask that you review the history of his handling the Cheyenne franchise in Riley world? While I realize that the world does nothing to discourage such tactics, given your often stated disdain for them, do you feel more or less inclined to advise him?
5/21/2015 11:54 PM
This is my second season owning this franchise. The previous owner was dedicated but didn't seem to understand how to build a winning team. Because of that you don't want Mike to answer my question? The questions aren't even about my Cheyenne franchise in Riley.
5/22/2015 6:45 AM (edited)
I'd wait.    He's 21 and won't advance that much.   If you have your choice of IFA, I think someone better will come along.

I'd prefer Anderson.

I did at your request.  No, I'm not a fan but that really doesn't affect how I'll answer.   If he was doing that in one of my worlds, it would.
