Can you show me just the # closest and the average GUESS rating, and present them in descending order of GUESS rating?

Could you do this with just the 14 elites? As if the rest of the IA schools didn't exist.

When I did this analysis (including the lat/lon pulls) myself a couple of years ago (just after the recruit redistribution fix and re-fix), I approached it from a slightly different angle.  I didn't care so much about how many players were available as much as I wanted to know what the "share" of players I could expect in an area.  I found out how many schools were within a certain range (say 180, 360, 540, etc) of every recruit.  Then I assigned the share of that recruit to each school.  So if there were 4 schools in the selected range, each of those schools got a .25 share for that player.  If there were 20 schools in that range, they'd all get a .05 share.

After going through all the schools, I could see who had the biggest pool of players to choose from at each level and, more importantly to me at the time, who had the greatest share of recruits.  Doing this research for a few seasons in 2 different worlds, I also came to the conclusion that the distribution was statistically consistent so I stopped doing it.  My results yielded some diamonds in the rough and a few that I expected to be big that turned out to be much more average than I would have thought.

Of course, I now subscribe to the thought that having competition for lots of recruits is a whole lot better than having no competition for a few recruits so I like your research better.  Good job.
Thanks. I probably would've done it your way if I had thought of it, lol. At first, I was all about what school had the most recruits closest to them, but now I think its best to get the school with the most recruits within 180 miles. When your vision gets high, many of the schools around you can't see the recruits you want anyway. At that point, I'd rather have any school with 2000 recruits within 360 miles than huntingdon.

Do you not have a spreadsheet app you can use to do this?
I should mention that the avg ratings of players do actually change from season to season. I wasn't able to see any schools consistently having better talent around them. I mainly included those values here to show that the talent distribution is pretty consistent.

Yes, I'll do this when I get a chance.

You should be. With that huge recruiting edge at Huntingdon, you should have brought a NC to NJAC by now.

Any reason why Cheyney isn't dominant in alot of the worlds? Too many schools within 360mi?

You got me thinking about this and wondering how much of an advantage Huntingdon has.  Anyone care to venture a guess how many NC's Huntingdon has won across all worlds?  I looked it up and was a little surprised.

Around 10, maybe more but definitely less than 20. None of the dynasty D3's in the worlds I'm in are Huntingdon.
8/28/2010 6:53 PM
14.  Two of those were won in the first season (Bryant and Dobie).   Mount Union, Colorado, and Ferrum all have more NC's than Huntingdon.   While I will admit Huntingdon has an advantage with its location,  bottom line, winning is coach-dependent.

I have a feeling Grove City has more as well.
