Old School Progressive 1949: Waitlisting again Topic

Old School Progressive League, a Single Season Progressive that began in 1916.

Here are the official rules.

Teams: 16 teams - 4 divisions. 2 division winners from each league will play in the LCS with the winners playing in the World Series.

162 game schedule with interleague play.

AAA - All teams must select the same 5 AAA players (listed below).

Cap - none

Clones - none

DH - Not until 1973

Trades - Encouraged and trading of draft picks limited to next season only.

Waiver wire - No

Live Play - limited to next series

DL - There is no limit to the number of players you may carry on the DL, but if they have a WIS eligible season they must be on your roster.

All rosters must have a minimum of 1,000 IPs and 4,000 PAs at the beginning of the season or suffer a 2 spot draft penalty.

Stadiums- When your franchise moves to a new stadium you may choose to move there or stay in your current stadium. As an example the Yankees start off playing in the Polo Grounds, in 1922 they get the option of moving into Yankee Stadium. They can choose to move there or stay in the Polo Grounds. If 2 seasons later they still wish to move to Yankee Stadium they can, but can never move back to the Polo Grounds. Teams can only move into stadiums that their franchise actually relocated to.

Conferences will be divides into two 4 team divisions as follows.

NL East- Boston Braves, Brooklyn Robins, New York Giants, Philadelphia Phillies

NL West- St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates

AL East- Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Washington Senators, Philadelphia A’s

AL West- St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers

Per the new rules in 1946, all teams have a maximum of 25 keepers. You must cut below 25 players to use draft picks. All teams must continue drafting players from the rookie draft pool until they reach 25 players total. In seasons where there are not 25 players, owners will select players from the extra player list until they reach 25.

Once an owner reaches 25 active players, they may not make any additional draft picks, but may draft players on the DL and still own the rights to their picks through round 10 should they want to trade them. DL players do not count toward your active roster 25 player roster limit.

Each owner will draft the designated 5 AAA players in the post below, bringing their total roster to 30. All AAA players are automatically cut from your team at the end of the season.
Owners will draft the following 5 pre-selected AAA players to help fill in holes in PAs and IP.

Draft: Rounds 1 and 2 set by an adjusted wins formula (calculated by frazzman80); rounds 3-end of the draft are set by actual wins/losses.

The draft order is based on "Adjusted Wins".
Adjusted wins = The average of actual wins + expected wins +/- the standard deviation from expected wins (+ if below; - if above) where Expected Wins = 82*(average team salary/league average salary)

Basically, you take all of the team's salaries at the beginning of the year, and figure out the league average salary and utilize this to find Expected Wins for each team at the beginning of the season. This becomes the baseline target wins for each team, and is a good measure of how many games they should win based on salary. EW can change during the season if a team's salary changes (I take the average of their beginning salary and ending salary).

At the end of the season, if the team is below their EW, then you add the standard deviation that they are from their EW to the average of their actual wins and EW to determine their adjusted wins.

If they are above their EW, then you subtract the standard deviation that they are from their EW to the average of their actual wins and EW to determine their adjusted wins.

Once you have each team's adjusted wins, then you rank them 1-16. Teams that overperform vs their EW will get a slight bonus in the fact that their adjusted wins will be lower than their actual wins, while teams that underperform vs their EW will get hit because their adjusted wins will be higher than their actual wins. Teams that tank (high salary, few wins) get hammered by the formula as their EW (based on their salary) will be much higher than that of a low salaried team, and their standard deviation number will be huge if they do not get close to their EW.

I have received smails from redsfive and dh0220 regarding the team.  I will be responding shortly to each owner.

Thank you for the interest so far.

Thanks for the quick responses.  The team has been claimed, but as a contingency I'd appreciate waitlisters to jump in the league.

We have an open team for the upcoming 1941 season in the Old School Progressive League as an owner went AWOL. This is a Single Season Progressive that began in 1916. We are in the middle of the 1941 draft, so I will compile the roster and post below. The previous owner was active in trades and just disappeared on us in the middle of the draft, so I have been picking for them.

Chicago White Sox franchise

Fantastic fabulous! I was away all weekend and work is in catchup mode right now, but I'll get you forum access and such ASAP. We are at the end of the first round in the draft, so you'll have some time to research and such.

Well my Yankees owner has completely dropped off the site. So the New York Yankees are available: Complete roster below. We are in the War Years, so the team also owns several DL players who come back after the War.

Note: The roster includes 2 players from our "24th/25th player list" from pre-1909 who will be used for the 1943 season but will be cut at the end of the year. These players are to help provide extra PAs/IP during the War.
