Out Of Position & the role of secondary positions Topic

Here's the situation. In a progressive I wound up with the 2000 seasons of Frank Thomas and Mo Vaughn and I'm down an OF. Here are the stats:

Thomas:    -/-    DH (primary position)  ,     A/A- 1B (30 games)
Vaughn:    C/A- 1B (primary position)   ,   D-/D- OF (1 game)

My questions:

If I stick Thomas in the OF, does he play like an OOP DH (ugly) or a penalized A/A- first baseman (quite acceptable).

If I throw Vaughn in the OF, do I get a D-/D- fielder who is additionally penalized for playing fewer than 20 games?

As far as I know, Thomas would indeed be considered an OOP DH and would be death in the OF.

When playing Vaughn in the OF you wouldn't receive any further fielding penalty (it's already tallied in), but it's bad enough as it is. That Fld% (.888) is a really bad D-.

Unfortunately Vaughn's bat isn't good enough carry his D in the OF. If you have any other options (AAA players? good fielding IF?), I would put them in the OF and just let Vaughn PH/DH.

Above is 2010 Jim Thome (DH only) after 51 team games of a 2010 draft Live league with no DH. He appeared in 41 of them, the majority of them as a PH. Note his 19 putouts (with an assist!) and only 2 poor plays with zero errors at RF. He even turned a DP at 1B after he stayed in as part of a double switch.

Interesting stats Mr. Trump. I'm guessing Thome's range was horrid, but fascinating to see he made zero errors. Maybe he wasn't getting to those balls. Even the minus plays weren't that bad.

I'm starting to think Frank Thomas, OF extraordinaire, might be the way to go. And minnow, sadly there's no other help.
