It would probably take around 20 minutes of WIS' time, which is just about 20 minutes more than they devote to the NBA SIM.

The chart in the original post is flawed. It is impossible for it to be accurate. 27.2 is listed in tier 2 & 3. So is a player with exactly 27.2 usage worth 6 or 4 usage points?22.1 is listed in both tier 3 & 4. So is a player with exactly 22.1 usage points worth 4 or 2 usage points? And so on.... Maybe this was addressed earlier, but I didn't see it when I scanned the pages.

The chart came straight from WiS itself.  Nobody ever accused them of being very good at anything lol.  You should have seen how messed up the first chart was they showed us (tier 4 was 17.5 to 27.2 & tier 3 was 20.5 to 27.2... like... huh?!)

anyway, it's pretty easy to tell:  do a search for the player in question and place 22.1 as the maximum for usage.  If he doesn't appear, then he's tier 3, not tier 4.   If he appears, he's tier 4.  Same principle works at every breakpoint.

For example, to figure out if 14-15 Joakim Noah (13.7% usg) is tier 5 or tier 6, I placed 13.7 usage as the maximum.  I got zero search results.  I then put it as minimum & he popped up.  Thus, 14-15 Joakim Noah (13.7% usg) is tier 5 & worth 1 point against the team possession penalty.

theory: players tend to under generate FTAs which in turn leads to additional shot attempts which leads to the individual penalty kicking in so you're being screwed coming and going because the engine doesn't fully address all the components that go into the IRL usage figure (so the player's usage tier helps to avoid the team penalty but the actual sim player behavior is almost bound to trigger the individual penalty)

so Kareem who doesn't go to the line that much for a high volume dude is less likely to suffer excessive TOs etc than Shaq?

Interesting observation. I wonder if Ash would be willing to test that theory.

Actually, 14-15 Curry is a perfect example of a high usage, low FTA player. You've used him a lot Ash ... how is his TOV% compared to Real life?

I think FGA, FTA and TO (not just FGA) are used to determine if a player is in the individual possession penalty.

That may be. But since the sim still significantly cuts into a players FTA's, it should technically compensate by increasing both FGAs and TOs to attain the players usage %. Correct? So even if a players TOV% isn't going up due to the Player possession penalty, it's still bound to go up by virtue of reduced FTAs. My question is how much is TOV% affected with a player like Shaq, whose likely going to lose half his real life FTAs, as opposed to a player like Curry, who might actually reach his real life FTA's.

I'd also be really curious to see if a team built with high usage but low FTA matches it's real life TOV%.
