This new regressive league will start with seasons 2010-2011 and 1966-1967 and decrease until 1942-1943 ( Beginning of Original 6 era ). This makes 25 seasons before any switch (If there will be one). When the 2nd era will reach 1942-43, 1st one will be in 1986-1987, so there will be enough players through the years to make good teams.
First part of draft:
A randomized draft order will determine the order which owners will have to select an exclusive 2010-2011 franchise and pick one forward, one d-man and a goalie from that franchise. The tricky part is not to necessarily pick the most expensive players from each team because it is a regressive league and therefore all seasons of the players count.
Remaining of the draft:
Once all owners have picked their franchise and their 3 players, the “real” draft will start. All remaining 2010-2011 players (that have not been pick) and all 1966-1967 players will be available. ALL PLAYERS ARE EXCLUSIVE.
Like some franchises will be disadvantaged from others, the actual draft order will be switched. So, first owner to choose his franchise will pick last in the draft. Remaining rounds of the draft will be switched from round to round.
NOTE:
The franchise will be from 2010-2011, which means that players who had moved from this franchise during off-season will still be a part of their 2010-2011 teams. (EX: Brad Richards is in Dallas and not NYR) Also, since there have been trades last year, if a player is selected by an owner for one of his 3 players, this player can no longer be selected by another owner. (EX Anderson was traded from Colorado to Ottawa, but he can only be pick by one of the owners)
