No one knows.  I think that for sure HVs are better up to 200 miles.  Above 360 its CVs.  Between 200-360, your guess is as good as any.
all in all, good advice.

however, put me squarely in the HV up to 360 mile camp. im also not even in the slightest convinced that "no one knows". i don't claim to know for sure, but thats because im lazy enough not to push it to the "knowing for sure" level. certainly there are multiple ways to get there.
What's the logic behind the 'HV for close recruits' and 'CV for further away recruits' thinking?  Don't think I've ever seen it spelled out.

Actually, the logic is spelled out in this very thread.  All about the benjamins.

I'm looking for the GOOGLE MAPS that has all the schools listed on it.   I had it on my old laptop but now do not.  It was probably the best resource one could have before recruiting starts.  Does anyone have it or know where I can find it?  Thanks!

Here's how i figure it:

CV= 2.5 HV. (recruiting value of one campus visit is around 2.5 home visits)

Multiply the HV cost times 2.5 and if this cost is  higher than the cost of one campus visit, you should be doing CV's instead of HV's.

I won't do HV's if the guy is more than 150ish away.
