75 Davey Lopes finishing out his season on a 3-for-40 slide. 3 singles, no extra base hits. Now THAT'S a slump. Ya can't steal 1st base, Davey!

From an 80M theme, here were the first half stats for my 1946 Hank Greenberg:

.258/.338/.584, 28 HR, 72 RBI

Not bad for a $5.8M hitter.  But could he keep it up for the whole season?

Here were the second half stats:

.356/.440/.860, 45 HR, 104 RBI

Checking in occasionally while I'm on vacation, particularly since I have a team in the final four of a TOC.  First game of the series, we face 1908 Joss (of course), and he pitches a complete game 3-2 win.  I was a bit ticked when I noticed in the boxscore that he'd started the game at 72 percent.

Second game goes 15 innings, and we lose 5-4  The winning pitcher?  The same Joss who started game 1 at 72 percent.  This time he closed things out with 2.2 scoreless innings -- at 62 percent.  He's now 7-0 in this particular TOC, with probably 6 wins to go.

My sim manager pinch hit for both my catcher and 1b in the same inning, and then the following inning put my back up catcher at first and threw an out of position outfielder (with no catcher rating) at catcher. Of course this caused a passed ball and a bitter extra inning loss.

1908 Joss, or garbage?

I was looking at the Opening Day starters for an OL that just kicked off this AM.  A total of five 1908 Addie Josses took to the mound.  Those teams went 2-3.

Three owners in the league started a pair of AAA pitchers (Effectiveness rating 3 and 1) and a 204K scrub (ERC# 6.48).  Those teams went 3-0.

From a 1931 prog...

49 games in, Babe Ruth led the HR race with 20.

79 games in, Babe Ruth still leads the HR race.  With that same number: 20!

A 30 game homerless slump -- in a single-season prog -- for a player with 46 real life HR!

From the $100M Exclusive Ownership league...

Pitcher Russ Ford hits a triple, which isn't a big deal even though triples by a pitcher aren't that common.  What makes this a Believe It or Don't! is that the next 4 consecutive batters also hit triples.  5 consecutive batters reached base by hitting a triple.

My 2010 prog team was penciled in as a contender (2nd highest salary in the league) so imagine my surprise when after 51 games we found ourselves last in our division, 10 games out of 1st and 8 games back of the wild card leader, with a piddling 21-30 record.

Not helping matters? Our 0-15 record in 1-run games!

From the No Whining Progressive (1961 to the just completed 1991 regular season)...

The record for most wins by a pitcher without a loss: 21, set in 1985.

The record for most losses by a pitcher without a win: 27, set in 1991.

Both feats were accomplished by Storm "All or Nothing" Davis!

I would suggest your team avoid one-run games. Try to fall at least two behind when possible. Your odds improve.

I've got a team in an 80M theme league (w/AAA) that's got a pretty good division lead late in the season.  To save on fatigue, I just went through an 8-game stretch where every other game I sent 200K scrub pitchers to the mound with several 200K/AAA fielders behind them.  The results:

1. 1906 Jack Pfiester ($8.7M) starts -- Lost 3-2.

2. 200K pitcher starts -- Won 1-0, Player of the Game is 90% 200K batter who hits HR.

3. 1911 Ed Reulbach ($11.3M) starts -- Lost 2-0.

4. 200K pitcher starts -- Won 10-5.  Same POG as in Game 1, this time he's 85% and hits HR, bats in 5.

5. Reulbach again -- Lost 5-3.

6. 200K pitcher starts -- Won 10-3.

7. Pfiester again -- Won 3-2 (needed 3 runs late).

8. 200K pitchers starts -- Won 5-0.

1-3 with front line pitchers/bats, 4-0 with scrub pitchers/bats.

In a 100M league:

My team finished with the most one run games, with 68. That's 42% of our games played.

Despite this, our pitching staff was 17th(!) in the league in innings pitched, with 1,443.33. This is even less than 162 * 9 (which is 1458).
