It'll be an interesting season.  Only a matter of time b/f Valentine alienates himself from everyone around him.  Some people are just wired that way.

STFU arvid. Like you know ANYTHING about the man. He'll be fine with teh Socks...LOL!!!

I liked Valentine as an analyst for ESPN, but I'm not sure what all the stuff he says to the media is all about as a manager.  The guy seems very self promoting.  I'm far from a fan of the Red Sox, but it seems like they went in the wrong direction by hiring Valentine.  But, I guess we'll see how it goes when the season starts.

As a Yankee fan living in New England, I'm looking forward to the "Bobby V. Train Wreck '12" show.

The Red Sox have a loaded roster, they'd win a ton of games with my little sister as manager.  That being said, firing Francona was a massive over reaction to a fluke collapse and they are worse off with Valentine.

Managers get stale.    The same voice over and over again suddenly gets unheard.    You wouldn't think that professional athletes, or businessmen, need to be motivated by outside forces but most do.   Self-motivation isn't a talent that all have.

It's not like Rickey and Bobby Bo weren't caught playing cards during the game when Valentine was the Mets manager.

That wasn't Bobby then. It was some guy with a mustache that looked like him.

I'm pretty sure both were sent packing as soon as humanly possible by that Valentine impersonator.   Right or wrong, I think Valentine is a "My way or the highway" kind of guy whereas Francona was more "Oh, c'mon guys.  Let's not do that, OK?" guy.

I expect he'll have problems with the primadonnas and the grinders will love him.

To me, it looks very similar to Torre to Girardi.    Except Torre wasn't fond of A-Roid at all and probably jerked him around more than Francona jerked anyone around.
