OBAMA: BEST PREZ SINCE FDR? Topic

I don't blame you. We should not raise taxes right now on anyone, rich or poor.
And you of course know that this is the main theme of the Dems, raise taxes.

I'm not advocating for the Dems.  I'm saying the stimulus was and is the right course of action in dealing with the recession.
5/29/2012 1:34 PM
And yet you claim that this stimulus plan failed.

This is a common theme with the left.

1 You want to get some massive government program in place that the people would never stand for.
2 Propose something small to fix the problem.
3 Since the small thing had nothing to do with the problem it fails.
4 Say we need to do more. Since this was passed to fix the problem we can no longer debate its logic, the media just accpets that this is the solution.
5 Repeat untill you get a massive program.

This has been done with SS, Medicare, gun control and socialized medicine. Woops they have not finished pushing Obamacare up.

The stimulus didn't fail.  But it was too small to completely turn around the economy.

It helped like a bandaid helps a deep cut.  It stops the bleeding but stitches work better.

And it shouldn't be permanent.

OMG you guys have been having the same argument for days.  You do know what the definition of insanity is right......either that or your an old married couple happy that gays can finally have benefits.

Look at the verbal gymnastics you need to go through to defend this.

A bandaid wouldnt really help a deep cut. It needs stiches. And putting a band aid on would hurt because the stiches ot needs are being ignored.

Obama and his team of advisors looked at the problem and came up with the stimulus. They got the solution they wanted and it failed to do wha tthey thought it would. I cannot get a better definition of failed. Obama is trying to rewrite history to claim that all his failings are the cause of Republican obstruction, but here is another example of Obama getting what he wants and his policies fail!

The stimulus didn't fail. It helped stop the recession. It just wasn't big enough to completely turn around the economy.

So the idea is that if it hadnt been for the stimulus things would have been worse.

I admit if you look at the evidence in a way it might indicate that.

What does seem clear is this is really dragging on. Why?

Also what is clear is Obama was wrong about his plan.

So things dont seem to be getting better anytime soon and by his own standards the stumulus was a failure.

And the idea that things might have been worse is all you have?

To quote a prminent posted...LANDSLIDE!

Why is the slow economy dragging on?  In addition to the stimulus being too small, many state governments drastically cut spending, offsetting a lot of the effect of the stimulus.

Obama was wrong in the sense that the stimulus was adequate.  The problem with that argument on your side is just about every Republican condemned the stimulus.  So the alternative to the stimulus wasn't a bigger and more effective stimulus but no stimulus, in which case we'd be much worse off.

All of Europe is collapsin because of government spending....We are collapsing because we are not spending enough?

An odd economic belief...The only thing that stands between us and economic stagnation is government spending? Is that where we are, or where the European Socialists want us to be?

The state governments cut their spending, because most of them cannot "constitutionally" carry a deficit into the next fiscal year.  Their budgets must be balanced somehow.

I don't know much about state budget rules.  I know they can run a deficit and issue bonds.  Obviously there are limitations to that.  But states that cuts spending did measurably worse economically than states that didn't:

Yeah, CBS, pick a better source because that one is in obamas pocket.

More telling the entire study was done by "The Center for American Progress" a notoriously biased left wing think tank.

The recall in Wisconsin comes to a head this Tuesday. This is a big one for the left. They put everything they had in this one. They portrayed it as a no brainer. And now it appears clear that the people of Wisconsin like Scott Walker and his attempts to reign in the spenidng.

Of course it is all because of Citizens United.
