I'm happy with my class this year, replacing the underachieving Frederick Fuller and the serviceable but slow big man, Wayne Duncan.  Charles Hennessy will fill a similar role to that of Duncan, rebounding the minute he arrives on campus and, by his junior season, being a formidable low-post presence on both ends of the court.

Allen Yoder, a lifelong fan of the great Saluki-dog, comes to Carbondale with some character-related questions.  He can shoot a bit and will grow into an super-sub, playing the #1 or #2 off the bench.

With nearly $32,000 in the bank, I'll have a nice reserve for next season to battle, though I enjoyed the ease of recruiting this season.

I am very happy with my recruits.  Ranks are not stellar but potential is where I want it.  Glad to not really have to battle anyone but a SIM.

Season 63 News:  the SIU Saluki-Dogs just threw a beat-down on the University of Illinois.  Whatup.

Final Standings.  Good year for the conference.  We were in 6th place in the RPI for a lot of the year, only to lose that position during the postseason.  We are going to need some postseason success to make that jump into the top 6 conferences.

Here is my recruit...

All things considered, and provided Quintanar shows up, I'm ok with this class.  I'm a bit bummed because I dropped exactly $39,995 on a guy who eventually went to Indiana.  The Hoosiers had 1 scholarship; I rolled the dice and lost.  Henderson will provide some valuable minutes down the line, depending on how his shooting and defense improve.  Quintanar will thrash gay men throughout the MVC for many seasons to come.

Quintanar is dumber than a box of rocks.

Wow, Quintanar couldn't even get through SIU's stringent admissions.
1/29/2013 11:44 AM
No kidding.  And now that he's in Florida it's very unlikely that I can lock him up.

This year's recruiting class is a good one for the Saluki Dogs of Southern Illinois.  With the loss to graduation of MVC POY Jamie Brown and sharpshooting Anthonly Beasley, as well as the transfer of sophomore Paul Henderson, the backcourt will depend upon the increased contributions of seniors Robert Turner and James Hobdy along with junior Allen Yoder.  The staff expects one recruit to play a major role in the backcourt--junior tranfser Shaun Jones, a gifted offensive player with a history of behavioral and attitude problems.

Local product James Zahnow is expected to redshirt this season.  He will assume a significant role next year at the point.

Rounding out the trio of backcourt recruits is Jackson, Tennessee product James Dennis.  A high-school point guard, Dennis will be called upon to develop his rebounding and defense to play the wing in SIU's fabled motion offense.  Dennis is one of several recruits who will be called upon to replace two-time 1st All Conference SF/PF Harry Berman.   As he develops his offensive skills, PF John Jenkins will provide rebounding and defensive backup to started Brian Curtis.  Ferman Fitzpatrick will do the same, splitting time at the 4 and 5 while providing some scoring on the block.

The Saluki Dogs will feel the loss of Darnell Hardy on the glass.  Ably replacing him, though, will be the afforementioned Fitzpatrick, along with sophmore Lawrence Quintanar.  As some may remember, one season ago Quintanar took his talent to Brevard Community College in Florida.  Boasting a 2.2 GPA but needing only three years to graduate, he now returns to the midwest where he will spell senior center Charles Hennessey and earn his PhD in neoruoscience.

Happy with the athleticism and defense of this group.  Should have a couple decent scorers.  Saez has high-high potential in REB, LP, and PER, so he could be a star for Bradley.

Quintanar hasn't gotten any smarter since last season.  He'll fit right in with you group of thugs and crackheads.
