And as we all know, a CC Victory automatically extends an invitation to the National Tournament! We came in as the #8 seed in the North to face the #1 seed in the North, East Texas Baptist University who is not only the #1 seed in the North bracket, but the #1 WIS, Coaches, and Press ranked team in Yost DIII. I'm pretty sure the train ride ends here. But I am very, very happy with how this season turned out, I met my goal of obtaining a winning season and surpassed it with not only getting into the CC game, but winning it, and THEN getting invited to the National Tournament even if we were only ranked as WIS #97.

Oh, and for those that are curious, this in only the second time in the history of CUA (Yost) to make it to the National Tournament in 40 seasons.

Season 3 - Post Season

As I predicted, we bowed out early with a first round loss to #1 ETBU

Catholic (9-6) 13
#1 ETBU (17-0) 33

All in all, I still consider this a successful season since I exceeded my goal of only posting a winning record. Making it to the CC game, and winning, thereby earning me a spot in the playoffs was quite a change from being the bottom rung of DIII in Yost. And when I say bottom rung, I mean dead last.

The 4 turnovers and 50 yards in penalties probably kept it from being anywhere near a close game, but I was able to hang 13 points on them in 14 first downs and 244 yds of offense.

The most important thing, is that I was able to secure 2 additional practices for my team that is losing only 3 (SimAC signed) players, none of which were starters. My first recruiting class will be returning as seniors with some extra playoff practices and I am expecting to have a decent season again.

Season 4 - Overview

Well, I managed to not post anything for season 4 until it was all over. At least in regards to CUA....... I am a slacker.

CUA came into the season with high hopes after posting a winning record for the first time in forever and its first ever CC title. Well, this season the CUA Cardinals went 14-1!!!!! That's a pretty good turn around for a team that was dead last in WIS rankings with 3 consecutive 0-fer seasons before I took over. We even played 4 human coached teams: 1 OOC, 2 CONF, and 1 in the playoffs. Oh yeah, we also won a consecutive Conference Championship (the only 2 in team history of 41 seasons) and got a consecutive invite to the National Tournament (which he have 2 of the 3 in the 41 season team history).

We lost in the first round of Playoffs to a good human coached team even though we mounted a pretty fair comeback in the second half. We also achieved a ranking of #8 in the WIS rankings, probably a little undeserved but very much appreciated. This ranking will probably fall some but I think it will hold enough to keep us in the top 15 at seasons end. Anything above 24 will provide us the highest season ending ranking that CUA has achieved in their 41 seasons of Yost.

So yeah, I'm pretty happy about how things turned out this season even with the 1 and done in the National Tournament.

I put the Exhibition games in here even though I think they only serve as practice time and game plan test beds to point out that game between us and Edinboro. Edinboro is a DII team and CUA is DIII. I like to try and schedule at least one exhib game for my teams against a higher level Sim coached team. Even though they are usually crap teams, being the next tier, they usually have higher caliber players to compete against. We did manage to squeak out a win.

In the OOC, we pretty much were able to put a thumping on the Sim coached teams we played. Not surprising since they all posted a losing record. Our one Human OOC competition did pretty well in his first season at MC with a 9-5 record and gave us our tightest game in OOC.

During conference play we faced 2 Human coached teams, both of which are going thru a rebuilding phase. The rest of the games were against Sim Coached teams, most of whom did not post winning records. My tightest game was against Sim Coached 3-10 #200 Guilford in which we won by 10 points, signifigantly less than the spread. Where is that engine update? ;)

We won against Sim Coached 9-5 #64 ranked Franklin to secure our second and consecutive Conference Championship.

Going into the first round against #25 Human coached Merchant Marine, we found ourselves down 20-3 at the half. Despite a furious comeback in the second half, CUA lost by a score of 31-24. Three turnovers, a missed FG, and a horrible first half will do that to you. But I was happy to have the opportunity to get a couple extra practices for my guys with the CC and playoff game, just wished it could have been more. The extra practices for my underclassmen are very important as my goal of the 22-3-22-3 class structure is shaping up and we will be losing 25 (YES!! Twenty-Five) Seniors. My first ever recruiting class here at CUA. *sniff* I'm really proud of these little digital guys and all that they've accomplished. *sniff* So next years expectations are a little tempered as to what to expect. I'll have more on the development of my first recruiting class later.

Saw you in the GD forums and thought I'd check on how it was going...looks like you'll be a perennial playoff team, great job.
