Alpha League Prog. needs 1-Div. winner of 103 ! Topic

The Alpha league is a 16 team progressive that advances 2 seasons at a time. The league started with the 1885/1886 season and is currently in season 13, 1909/10. Each season owners choose which of 2 seasons to use for each of their players (assuming players are WIS eligible both seasons).

The league needs 5 replacement owners for the 1911/12 season, our 14th season.

Due to the double season format, turnover of players is fairly rapid and teams can be turned around quickly.

Information on the 3 available teams is posted below.

We are currently posting keepers so the first task of a new owner would be to post keepers for the selected team. I will give interested owners access to our private forum. League rules are available in the private forum, the available player list will be posted there when all keepers have been posted and the 1911/12 draft will be held there.

The first available team is the New York Giants. The current owner of the Giants may not be able to continue for health reasons. The Giants current record is 72-81 with 11 games left and they will likely draft around  5th in the 16 team league. The Giants roster is as follows:

Active for 1911/12 (19):
C  Ted Easterly
1B Jake Stahl
2B Johnny Evers, Jimmy Walsh
3B Harry Lord, Tillie Shaefer, Billy Purtell (probably a cut)

The 2nd team available is the Chicago White Sox. The current owner has apparently dropped from WIS completely, as he has left several leagues. the White Sox current record is 76-77 and they will likely draft about 7th , although there are 7 teams with 75-81 wins so it is difficult to predict exactly where the White Sox will draft. The White Sox roster is a s follows:

C   Chief Meyers, Larry McLean
2B Germany Schaefer
3B Frank Baker, George Moriarty, Gus Getz (possible cut?)

The 3rd team available is the Washington Senators. I had to take this team as a 2nd team when the previous owner exited WIS completeley, dropping from a half dozen leagues. The Senators current record is 67-86 and they will likely draft 3rd in the 1911/12 draft. The Senators Roster is as follows:

Active in 1911/12 (14):

The 4th team available is the St. Louis Cardinals. Because of business commitments, the current owner is reducing his WIS commitments. The Cardinals  record was 103-59, and they have won the NL West title tied with the Dodgers for the best record in the entire league. They will draft 15th or 16th in the league. The Cardinals roster is as follows:

Active in 1911/12 (18):
C   Jim Stephens, Art Wilson
2B Miller Huggins, Dots Miller, Rollie Zeider
3B Bill Sweeney
SS George McBride
OF Sam Crawford, Zach Wheat, Chief Wilson, Bob Coulson
P   Jack Coombs, Nap Rucker, Art Fromme
Hooks Wiltse, Bill Burns, Lew Brockett

IR (2):
3B George Perring
OF Ray Demmitt

Retired (5):
C   Boss Schmidt
OF Heinie Heitmuller
P   Harry Ables, Bill Powell, Harry Suter

The team will need 7 draft picks

The Cardinals are in very good shape and should be one of the top teams again in 1911/12

The 5th team available is the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies current record is 55-105 and they will be drafting 2nd. The Phillies roster is as follows:

Would like to have the Cardinals. Who will be drafting first
The Chicago Cubs will be drafting first. As noted above, the Cardinals will be drafting 15th-draft order is inverse of prior season's record.
