I'm going into 1992 in a progressive that allows 18 keepers and I have the following returning bats:

I'm wondering who and where everybody would start guys.  To me it's pretty obvious that Galarraga and Palmer should sit; I could use Palmer at 1B, though, and playing home games in Wrigley he would undoubtedly pop some homers and drive in some runs from the bottom of the order.  Assume I draft guys to play SS who look something like 100 OBP+, 85 SLG+.  My natural lineup would probably be:

1) Phillips, RF
2) Butler, CF
3) Bonds, LF
4) Hoiles, C
5) Caminiti, 3B
6) Buhner, 1B
7) SS
8) P
9) Biggio, 2B

Against lefties I'd swap Biggio and TP.  Obviously I'll need a backup for Hoiles who likely bats 6th or 7th instead of cleanup when he's in.  The things I'm wondering about are:
1) should I substitute Paul O'Neill for Buhner against righties?  Or even for Biggio?  I can play Phillips at 2nd.
2) which outfielder would you put on first?  Or would you use Palmer there?
3) would it make more sense to put Biggio and TP 1 and 2 since they have tons of PAs?  I hate putting two guys with absolutely no power, not even doubles power, at the top of the order.  If I make the change it would be 3.  But I do think it makes sense to have them both in front of Bonds in one way or another, and with this group of guys it seems obvious to me that Butler should hit right in front of Bonds.  He'll be on base all the time, has the speed to score on a double, and obviously has the opportunity to score on home runs.

Also, since when can I post spreadsheets in Waterfox?  It's awesome, because my IE is on the fritz and keeps freezing up.

16, but I don't see how that's relevant.  Unless maybe your weighting of OBP vs HR is significantly weighted based on how watered down the pitching is, I suppose.

it's relevant because none of those guys are good options.   You should be able to use your 5th and 6th round picks (or 6th and 7th) to pick a better 6 hole hitter.

At what position?  '92 isn't a good year for first baseman.  The most expensive guy available with a rating at 1B is Erik Karros, and only because he's a rookie; he'll probably be gone in the 2nd round.   The only .400 slugger likely to survive into the later rounds who can play 1B is Sid Bream, and I don't think that's much of an improvement over Buhner, at least not in my park.

To further expound on that point, '92 isn't a great hitting season at all.  Not sure what you're thinking, but everybody above Galarraga in my spreadsheet has OBP+ and SLG+ over 100 except Biggio, whose SLG+ is 100 even.

Well I'm planning on drafting one more pitcher at some point, 2 SSs, a C, and then whatever 2 guys left at the end have the best OPS numbers.  Dunno who will be around at that point.

Well,  I am willing to bet your 6th and 7th round draft picks will be better than Buhner.

You probably don't need to take the 2nd SS early either.  With 16 teams, probably 12 of them all ready have SS for the year, the demand for SS will be low even with the short supply.
