BL if you look at the DHs this year, they're generally not all mashers.  Guys who can hit and really can't play a position.  The guys you named all play a position pretty well.
They are mostly OF/1B types who would be perfectly acceptable DHs. Better choices than a 41 year old former SS who probably won't be able to hit much anymore.
Oh, now he won't even be able to hit.   What happened to .290/330/390 that you threw out?

Mike, let's be honest...if it was anyone but Jeter, would you be happy with those numbers at DH? I get what you're saying, and I agree that there aren't as many slugging DH-types out there these days as bad_luck thinks, but I hope you're just defending your point to rile BL up more. I highly doubt you'd be satisfied with that production from a nameless Yankee DH.

If they're winning, like they have with the ****** DH(as BL describes them) and Jeter is approaching 4000 hits, absolutely.    If they're playing .500 ball, not so much.  But I'm probably annoyed with a lot of guys in that case.

I think the record is out of reach.  He'd have to play at least 6 more seasons at the same level he's at now.  I don't see that.    I don't even see him catching Cobb.   But 4000 seems feasible if he's willing to play 5 at a diminished skill level.    He might be able to get it in 4 but that's assuming a lot.
Dream alot?? Good Lord!!!

174 per year for the next 4.   Had 216 this year.     That's hitting .290 for the next 4.   I think that's too much to expect but, throw a 5th year in there and it's possible.

As a side note . . . if Jeter gets a hit tonight against Baltimore, it will be his 200th career post-season hit.

He's had 642 at-bats.  Seems about right.
