I don't get it. But then again, you and I don't have Kershaw, Cabrera, Braun, etc, Don.
Well... I don't have any of those guys, and I don't have much money left, and I don't like my team very much... but I am loving this league!! Fascinating.
Too bad I have put myself in a hole that will take many calendar years to dig out of with my overspending on mediocre pitching talent. Oops ;-)

Well there are many different strategies on how to approach this auction and this league and who's to say which way is best. One thing I knew for sure was for me to have the most fun I can, I have to have at least 2 or 3 superstars that are my favorite. That's where Kershaw and Braun come in,

Kershaw is my favorite sim and fantasy pitcher and at age 24 the most valuable. It was a NO brainer to go after him hard. He is just as good as Verlander right now and 5 years younger. The only other pitcher that is close by age is Stephen Strasburg but Kershaw has proven it a lot longer. And I have Kershaw as long as I like, not just 5 years

I'm thrilled to get Kershaw at 207, I don't understand how somebody thought he would go for less than the highest bid which was 183, but I can understand someone not wanting to spend that.

The market for marquee pitching was set early with the 183 number for Matt Cain and a couple others. I'm not saying Kershaw isn't worth more than a Matt Cain. I think the going rate for an ace is a bit high for a $1000 cap. That's all.

Kershaw is a stud, but he will most likely have a few seasons of mediocrity that will have you question his price tag. I hope I'm wrong as I'm a Dodger fan.

I''m not questioning your personal strategy. Heck, I haven't won many bids and that tells me that I'm either way too conservative in my pricing of players or I'll be able to build a deeper team of talent by not paying huge prices for certain players.

The fun is that no one strategy is right or wrong. I thought it was a good topic to kick around. 40-50% of your cap tied up in 2 players will test your skills to fill in around them. You'll have to steal a few players here and there. Time will tell.

Good luck,

DD

Funny how snatching Dodgers OF Matt Kemp for $127 less than what was spent on Ryan Braun can help you feel better about your squad! Good times.

Yasmani Grandal out 50 games next season.  That 50+ bid looks worse now, I suppose.

Montero, Avila, Hanigan, and Billy Butler are all signed to pretty good deals.  I'm looking for pitching and a second baseman that are similar bargains.

for as much $ as Don and oli have left, why the hell did they not show up for the bidding on David Price? how did it stall before $100? there's no cashing out your money at the end, fellas.

I think the real question is why are starting pitchers going for close to $200.  The Price was right.  It's probably closer to $91 than $200+ IMHO.

Still have some pretty jewels left on the table. I have my targets. Also have to think about long term contracts, etc.

but if you guys don't spend your $ now, then I'll never get the guys still on the board that I want.

Ahh.....the true motivation for the post....You probably don't have to worry about me as I have a peculiar shopping list. :-)

My bet is we're going to see alot of high priced pitchers in the FA market next season.

I don't think I am going to have much cash laying around at the end of the draft.......but you never know, maybe I am screwing up big time.
