The inauguration of the president of the United States takes place during the commencement of a new term of a president of the United States, which is every four years on January 20. Prior to the Twentieth Amendment, the date was March 4, the day of the year on which the Constitution of the United States first took effect in 1789; the last inauguration to take place on the older date was Franklin D. Roosevelt's first one on March 4, 1933. The day a presidential inauguration occurs is known as "Inauguration Day".

Build your team from any player involved in a transaction occurring on January 20 from 1934 to present.  Once you select a player, he is exclusively yours and you can twist all the players (including your player involved in Jan. 20 transaction) on the opening day team of your transaction player in the year of the transaction that appear on baseball-reference.com.

It can be any January 20 starting with 1934 and any player on the team roster (according to baseball-reference.com) during that season.  The distinction of the opening day roster was only to determine the team because players may have played for more than one team that year.

If the exclusive player is not WIS eligible but appears on baseball-reference.com on the opening day team for transaction year then the player is still eligible since he can be twisted.

If exclusive player opened the season on any of the transaction team's minor league affiliates then he is still eligible; otherwise, the exclusive player is ineligible.  For example, Phil Plantier was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays on 1/20/1998 but was released on 3/20/1998 and later in 1998 was signed by the Mets to a minor league contract.  Phil Plantier is ineligible.

Clear as mud?

The link to eligible players is here (only transactions after 1934):

Seems a little bit difficult, but I'll start you out man.

Lemme get Pete Rose and the 1984 Expos

Thanks ratedpg_13.  Welcome.  I find these types of leagues more challenging.  In most other league you can basically filter for OPS and ERC to find the best teams but using a random selection process like transactions on a given day make it more interesting.

I'm in.  Player TBD
11/7/2012 6:07 PM
It can be any January 20th?  Even if there was no Inauguration that day?
11/7/2012 6:18 PM
If so, I will take Phil Plantier and the 1998 Toronto Blue Jays
11/7/2012 6:31 PM
Also.....one more question.....I can't find anything anywhere that lists an opening day roster as far back as 1998.  Does it have to be opening day or can it be anyone who played for the '98 Blue Jays?

Hi Jesters, welcome.  It can be any January 20 starting with 1934 and any player on the team roster (according to baseball-reference.com) during that season.  The distinction of the opening day roster was only to determine the team because players may have played for more than one team that year.

Thanks for the good questions.

I'll jump in with Jose Reyes and the 2007 New York Mets
11/8/2012 5:53 PM
I'm assuming we can twist our player too or do we have to use the season which we selected?
11/8/2012 6:56 PM
Hi cstroh, welcome.  Yes you can twist your exclusive player.

I'm in....Vida Blue and the 1987 Oakland Athletics

A very large proportion of these teams, if not all of them, had less than 25 players on their opening day roster with WIS eligibility.  With these rules it only takes 1 guy without a WIS-eligible season on the Opening Day roster to invalidate the team.  Need a plan to fill out the rosters.
11/16/2012 5:41 PM
Or one exclusive player, for that matter.

dahsdebater,
thanks for the interest in the league, part of what at you describe was already discussed a few posts before yours:

It can be any January 20 starting with 1934 and any player on the team roster (according to baseball-reference.com) during that season.  The distinction of the opening day roster was only to determine the team because players may have played for more than one team that year.

Further clarification:  If the exclusive player is not WIS eligible but appears on baseball-reference.com on the opening day team for transaction year then the player is still eligible since he can be twisted.

Can I mark you for a slot/player?
