RA Dickey for D'Arnaud.  If the Mets feel they have to trade him, I'd be cool with that.

I'm kind of surprised Reyes didn't have a no trade clause
Would you want to stay there anyway after they dumped their whole roster?
Would you want to go from the beaches in Miami to Toronto?

Surely he doesn't have much beach time during the season, and with $100M he can do whatever he wants to in the offseason.

You don't think a player could spend the morning at the beach if they have a night game?

How about just talking the weather in April in Toronto vs Miami??? Not to mention the night life? Then you can get into the tax implications.

Canada has pretty good strip joints from what I've heard.

I did not think of Tax Rates, that would be a legitimate concern.

You're kidding, right?

It seems Toronto sees their window of opportunity as now.  So yea, acquiring a Cy Young award winner for a prospect seems like it would help them.  It depends on what they think of Dickey long-term and whether they are comfortable with Arencibia as a long-term option.

d'Arnaud is better than Arencibia today (injury aside), and while Dickey is obviously very good right now, he's also 38 and has only had 3 seasons above 0.5 WAR, with 2012 being the only one above 3.4 in his whole career.  ( http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/dicker.01.shtml ).

It doesn't feel sustainable, which is why the Mets might consider trading him in the first place.

But my point is: You can't throw away your #1 prospect like that.  You just can't.

But seriously, is the Happ to Dickey upgrade really worth d'Arnaud?  I don't believe it is.
11/16/2012 9:50 AM
That's fair.  If the Mets do trade Dickey, it will be to a team who thinks that Dickey has "figured out" the knuckleball, and can sustain it for multiple years.  A team that views Dickey as a near-ace.  Otherwise I don't see how they trade him.

I was discussing this with the Met fan that told me "substantial" deferral for Bay.    He said the Mets think they can get 3-4 top prospects for Dickey.    If that's true, they aren't trading him.     As a knuckleballer, he can probably pitch another 5 years.  Of course, he doesn't throw the "normal" knuckler either.

Yea, nobody is offering 3-4 great prospects, so the Mets aren't trading him if that's what they're demanding.

I think, ultimately, they end up re-signing him for 3 or 4 years.  But I get shopping him to see if anyone values him as someone who can do what he did this year for a few more years.
