I searched a little bit and couldn't find much on this...
I haven't had a situation where I've wanted to recruit one, but recently the thought has crossed my mind:

What is the impact of your school being a recruit's "childhood favorite"? Does it help a significant amount or is it more of a window dressing with a negligible impact?

My gut tells me it makes it easier to get on the considering list.  But as for closing the deal, negligible.
