OT- Chicago State to WAC Topic

Chicago State is the newest WAC member, leaving the Great West. .  They are concerned about increased travel cost, however. The A.D. intends to schedule more regional non-conf games so they can travel by bus. This season, they go to Ohio St and Notre Dame.

I suspect they'll have some upset fans, though. What if you've bought season tickets, and were planning a family outing, to see Great West foes Houston Baptist and New Jersey Tech??? It'll be a tough sell to convince fans that Texas St-San Marcos and Grand Canyon  are  equally attractive games.

On July 1, 2013, the WAC will consist of:
New Mexico St.
Seattle
Texas-Arlington
Texas-San Antonio
Texas St.- San Marcos
Texas- Pan American
Cal St.- Bakersfield
Utah Valley
Grand Canyon
Chicago St.
Texas-Pan American
Idaho   (leaves for the Big Sky in 2014)

What a mess. Founded in 1962, the WAC is the nation's 6th oldest conference.  It's first 8 teams were Arizona, Arizona St, BYU, Colorado St.,  New Mexico, Utah, UTEP, and Wyoming.

In the last 7 years, they've lost  Rice, SMU, Tulsa, San Jose, Nevada, Boise, La. Tech and Utah St.

With the group they have left, they'll be lucky  to avoid the play-in game.

They better hope Chicago St. doesn't bolt for the crumbling Big East. (sarcasm)

Both New Mexico St . and Idaho will be football independents this season. Then Idaho rejoins the Big Sky.  New Mexico St. is stuck. They've been rejected by the MWC, Sun Belt and Conference USA.   The Big Sky will have 12 teams after Idaho rejoins and is unlikely to add another.

One wishful columnist said they should schedule as many C-USA teams as possible in the hope that an invitation will come in the future

Admittedly, I didn't even realize that Grand Canyon was becoming a D1 school, let alone joining the WAC... this conference looks like an utter joke.
