Return visitors please note! i have changed the settings to allow manual selection of your top AAA prospect.

Those who are familiar with the plot of the story "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant" or the broadway musical "Damn Yankees" will understand the basis of this theme.  In the story, a long suffering middle aged baseball fan makes a pact with the devil to become a young baseball phenom named Joe Hardy, who then joins the woeful Senators and leads them to the AL pennant.  In this league, every team but the Yankees will get their own version of "Joe Hardy".

There are four divisions of four teams each.  Each division is based on different era in Yankees history, based on the playing careers of four Yankee greats as follows:(taken franchises in each division listed below division name)

i. Ruth Division (1920-1934)
a. Yankees- ghsisler

II. DiMaggio Division (1936-1950)
a Yankees- tdoak
b. Red Sox -imladris12

III. Mantle Division (1951-1968)

IV. Jeter Division (1995-2012)

One owner in each division will select his team from the rosters of Yankee teams in the corresponding period.  The rest will choose another American League team (style points for choosing a perrennial loser, but any AL franchise is eligible).    All players must choose a year in which their player actually played for the designated franchise.  The non-Yankee teams will be able to manually draft the position player of their choice to be their one super AAA prospect. The only limits are that he must be a non pitcher, that the player year chosen must fall within the assigned era, and he cannot be a Yankee. No other AAA callups are allowed.  They must rename their prospect "Joe Hardy".  Each team must choose the homefield their franchise actually used during the era.   Yankee teams may not use AAA.

The payroll cap of $100 million is high enough to select some great players but low enough to insure that "Joe Hardy" can make a difference.

No trades, waiver wire, injuries, clones or AAA other than "Joe Hardy".

Post your preferred era and franchise here to claim exclusive rights to  it.  We obviously need 1 Yankee owner from each era,, but the others are up to you.

Yes the non Yankee teams will choose their own top quality position prospect. They should be expected to be a much better than average player.
This is a little vague. There are specific quality levels for AAA (below average, average, above average, way above average) and you can set the league to allow owners to draft these players manually or not. It's an interesting theme idea, but I need to know just how you will set this up to determine if I can build a team good enough to compete with the Yankees of those eras.

I kind of let this drop for a while but I'm going to try and keep it on the front page for a while and see if it generates enough interest. It seems like a fun league to me, but maybe I'm just eccentric. It also my first theme league attempt, so if any of you old hands want to offer some input, don't hesitate. I'm open to any ideas that will improve the league while staying true to the concept.

Good choice! Hard to believe they managed only one pennant in those years.

I didn't see an answer the to AAA level.  You'd need it to be WAA to make this work.

It's way above average. Chosen by the manager. For example, I've drafted a team and chose 1962 Willie mays as my joe hardy.

Lets get some players in here.

Though the Yankee teams of these eras were great, there were some other great franchises too.
