So I promised this kid 10 minutes.  He's averaging 10.7 and he complained about his minutes.  Now, to be fair, there were several games recently when he was below 10 but he's still about 10.

Remedial math?

I assume, trust, hope that he wont leave despite the complaint if I do satisfy the promise.....right?

You can't just bench the guy and not play him. I assume you are talking about Williams Overall, who's averaging 10.5 mpg in 17 games, when 24 games have been played. He actually only averaged 7.4mpg.

He needs to play 260 minutes in order to average 10/game.  Start him and let him log 25-30 minutes vs. poor teams and you can bench him vs. the strong ones. Once he reaches 260 minutes (less if you round up), you can bench him for good.

It's too late for this season, since you have only 1 remaining game, but I use this approach often

This same thing applies with injuries. just because a guy is under 100%, you still have to play him as he will count not playing against those minutes. As long as they are over 60 % I think they should play if they are expecting minutes according to CS
