LSU only had 3 10 win seasons in 40 years before Saban got there.. and only had 7 wins combined the 2 seasons before he got there...  And we won them their first national championship....
Your point is well taken, but  the last sentence is incorrect.
LSU's 1st National Championship was 1958.

And who is "we"?
Was that you and Nick acting as co-coaches in 2003?

LSU is LSU.  They have something like the 10th most victories in NCAA history.  Winning at LSU isn't something that has never been done.

If you don't think Saban could take over a **** team right now and make them a winner, then you're smoking crack.  Not saying he would win 3/4 titles at Toledo, but he'd have them competing.

fyi he took over a complete train wreck from Mike Shula at Bama.  He went 7-6 that first season with all losses by a TD or less.  With Shula players.  His 2nd season Bama was a Tebow'd 4th Q away from playing for the title.  I'd say that speaks to his actual coaching ability more than winning titles now with a bunch of 5*.  Obviously I agree with that point, it's easier to sign those guys at a place like Bama.

take over a program like Purdue, Minnesota, Colorado, Kansas, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Wake Forest, etc. and turn them into a national power capable of winning a national title?
Successful yes, national power, no...............IMO.

Could he take a sleeping giant that's been down for a while (Tennessee or Miami for example) and turn them into a national power........absolutely.
