If there were a "best", they wouldn't give you a choice, they'd just set it for you. It's a personal decision based on what you want to do on offense/defense.
I like to set the "long" setting pretty long and the "short" setting pretty short, to really specialize in those situations.
So, that's really a very difficult question to answer.
