I never thought of Tony Phillips.  Could be a great pick.  Several hitters on my list that haven't been taken yet.

I'm really hoping 2004 Barry's OBP can get over .700 in this league.
1/30/2013 7:23 PM
It will -- if you count errors-on-base as part of OBP.

Otherwise, he's going to be up against all-star pitching in every game. ...

After both Beltran and Phillips got stolen from me at the last minute, I'll go with Sherry Magee.

Are we picking out of turn??

Got_Worms:  All the other players who are picking ahead of flakfizer have to pick a pitcher to go with the hitter they selected in Round 1, so, he's good to go.

I know there are 4 pitchers that need to be drafted before I can pick!

I've got my pitchers list at work so I'll take someone first thing in the morning.  It'll be someone dead for 100 years, I know that.

Really, your pitcher would have died by 1913?

I won't hold you to it, but I wonder how many useful pitchers there are from that era who died young.

flakfizer, I was debating between Phillips and Magee.  I decided to go with Tony because of his decent fielding at numerous positions over Magee's better hitting and his single season qualifying at SS.  We'll see.  I think I'd rather have Maddux and Magee than Clemens and Phillips.

Last but not least hitter: Bobby Abreu

Hitters are done.  Guys I'm most surprised to see undrafted:  Dick Allen and Vern Stephens.  I was thinking about Ken Boyer, too, but decided the OBP was just too low, remembering how bad Ernie Banks was in the first version of the league.

Seven pitchers still to come.

One for sure.  Addie Joss died in 1911 of tubercular menegitis.  He was only 31 years old and pitched just nine seasons in the major leagues.

He was so dominate because of his pitching motion.  He completely turned his back on the batter hiding the ball.  Hitters just couldn't pick it up.  He also had a great curve ball.

tdoak, I'm from Philadelphia and I'm old enough to remember seeing Dick Allen actually play INF positions other than 1B.  I thought of picking him but the memories filled me with horror.  I also considered Stephens, but liked the idea of picking the switch-hitting Phillips.

Nobody took Jose Oquendo. He's perfect for this league!
