That is actually pretty solid.
Alston is a great bat off the bench, and can spell Manuel or Alfonzo when they start to fatigue without losing much at all at the plate.

That leaves either Diaz or Oliver available to move for a SS or a pitching upgrade, imo.

Questions:

Burns' defensive ratings are atrocious. His range is an 8 and his glove is a 21. How can he play right? He's way below those thresholds?
Garko at 2b and Boone at CF doesn't make a lot of sense to me, considering the recommendations for a 2b are: 80,75,55,65 and a CF are 85/85/60/65.

Boone is a 85/74/55/58 vs Garko at 79/69/57/60.

Yeah, I think his offense can score.   Upgrading the D will help his less than stellar pitching.   James can be used as the utility guy(which is his best usage).  But you have to buy into my "C in RF" program.   I don't think the team is as bad as he thinks.   But SP needs some work.   The quality, or lack thereof, will be amplified with poor D.

How do I utilize Alston best?

What should my batting order be? What do I give up to get a shortstop?

Range for CF.   Negative plays out there are often 2 bases.    Garko isn't that far off of the recs.

I'll bump my "Rightfielder" thread.  You can decide for yourself on Burns.

Either Oliver or Diaz should be able to garner a no bat defensive SS.

Alston, because of his arm, would be best suited at 1B.   Manual can play LF in a pinch.   I'd use Alston as trade bait for pitching or work him in for off days for Manual/Alfonso.   And as my top PH option in all situations.

Would you guys do this trade incidentally?

so if I put Manuel in LF and Alston on 1st (that's where I have them now actually), where does that leave alfonzo? Trade him for a defensive SS?
1/30/2013 1:50 PM

Yeah, I don't think Valdez will ever be more than a utility guy.

1/30/2013 1:51 PM
No, I'd start Manuel at 1B and Alfonzo in LF.  That will help your pitching.  Alston is a bench guy unless you trade him.
1/30/2013 1:52 PM
Isn't Alston's bat good enough to play on a daily basis? Why can't he play 1st?
1/30/2013 1:54 PM
Because Manuel has to play LF then.    And he shouldn't.

Washington has two strong defensive SS in AAA. He's got a .500 team. You could probably get either SS for Oliver or Diaz.

Worth trade chatting with him about for sure.

And, truthfully, because of Alston's age/salary, you can probably get a decent pitcher for him.   You need better defense and pitching.
