How good a hitter? How bad a catcher? Topic

I'm in my first season so still figuring things out, but this guy looks like he projects to be a 1.000+ OBS hitter - at least against righties. But he also projects to be a subpart catcher. He's asking for $3M+ in amateur draft. Is he worth it? Could I use him as an everyday catcher against righties when he's ready for the show or is he just a backup catcher / off the bench guy?

I'd definitely sign the guy.
IMO he's a DH (I think a 31 PC is too low to tolerate behind the plate), but with that bat you could get value for him in a trade to an AL team down the road.

Looks like he was a 2nd round pick.   You're also basing it off 10m HS scouting.  If all that is correct, 3m+ is "will sign if the deal is right" or something along that line.   Offer it to him, if he accepts, great.   If he asks for more, you'll get a comp pick next year with higher scouting.

Thanks Guys. Very helpful.
One more question. I picked up a guy in supplemental round who is asking for $8.5-million. He projects as a good middle reliever, probably too weak against righties to be a great one: (Dur: 78, sta: 22, Ctl: 98, vs L 84 vs. r 66, P1: 81).
I don't think he's worth the $8.5-million. Signability says he "Probably won't sign. He's determined to finish out his college career.")
If he probably won't sign, should I make him a qualifying offer so I get comp pick next year? Or too much risk he'll accept?
Will he reject my offer in time to spend $$ on international prospects instead?

You cannot get comp picks for unsigned supplemental round picks.

I always have my supplemantal pick set as Very Conservative. Like tevwrg said, you will not get a comp pick for a supplemental pick that refuses to sign.

With a 98 control that guy should be pretty decent. On good years he will be a good sua on bad ones a sub. Are you near the top in terms of prospect money available? If so don't sign him, if you are near the bottom of your league in prospect cash andwontbe competing for the top 10 IFAs then sign the guy...
