Career Progressive Draft - 1901 Topic

Personally I'd like to lsee the AAA playe used as little as possible. Seems against the point of a historic
simulation to have AAA players impact a pennant race.

How about drafting scrubs <$500,000 from pre 1901 era career mode? Just throwing it out there.

Just a quick and dirty count, it looks like we lose about 13 or so batters and 8 pitchers but gain about 25 batters a and a dozen or so pitchers in '02. So depending on a teams roster construction, it should get easier next season.

i agree with all of the above points, i think y'all are seeing that side of me - i like and encourage input.  this is OUR league, not MY league.  i really believe that.  and i appreciate all the good advice and the fine compliments i've received so far.  i hope to get more of both!

i definitely want us to be 100% drafted players and 0% AAA asap.  not sure how quick we can make that happen, and i want the insurance of those AAAs for the first season just in case.  with such a slow draft, there's been plenty of time for me to brainstorm and trouble-shoot ahead of time.

one of the reasons i wanted to use empty seasons for players who's careers weren't over yet is to make more guys available.  this will only give us a few guys each season, but it can't hurt.  plus i know we are smarter then the GMs of the 19th century, so why should we suffer from their decisions??  salary hold-out?  pay the dude.

In the 19th century (and also 'till around the 70's) players played because they loved the game. Now they play for the money. Little rich kids that can't play when they have a hangnail (or hangover). Not all, some still play that way. I love baseball but I think it's been going downhill. When .250 hitters are paid the amount they're being paid for doing nothing and not being able to take your family to a ballgame without signing escrow papers really sucks .... ok, off the bandwagon now. Back in a bit.

Baseball is my favourite sport but i have not watched a full game since the Expos were moved. There were legitimate issues at the time that made baseball difficult in Montreal, but I find what is going on in Florida to be quite interesting.

As for the game itself, the steroids took away so much from the game. While the Sosa, McGwire hr race is often touted as saving baseball, it just removed me even further from the sport.

Don't even get me started on public money being used to fund stadiums.

Now I'm an old fart and I find the money paid to athletes to be quite disgusting. What's a sports fan to do?

I long for the days when a Jose Lind or Rodney Scott could be important parts to their team. I long for 100 sb seasons, sac bunts, double steals and hit and runs. I long for the days of just a big man crushing a ball astronomical distances.

looks like i could have stopped off after work after all.

I would be in favor of drafting until the players run out. but as an alternative we could draft 20 rounds then each manager would fill out their remaining 5 roster spots from players left or scrubs (depending on what you want or need to meet ip/pa requirements). then after the draft. any '01 duplicates would be kept by the team with the earlier draft right.

I like stlnathan's idea too if that was considered.

51 on the 20th. That's old enough to wear socks and sandals.

I'll be 69 in November. Been wearing them for 15 years. lol

stlnathan - there shouldn't be any duplicates except for the scrubs, and none of them are '01 material.  but otherwise you are saying the same as what i was.  there will be a uniform umber per team, as otherwise a few teams will get 1 more '01 player then others.  i think 20 is the most we can do without running out.  maybe 21.  we will see.

what I meant gigrant, if for the last 5 players there wasn't a draft and managers were just filling out their draft lists (from remaining '01 players and scrubs), there would be a chance of duplicates of the remaining '01 players(assuming there are some) since they wouldn't have been drafted and managers are completing their lists in the blind.

but again, I would prefer to draft until we just ran out of '01 players.
