Is the Fatigue Code Broken in the Sim? Topic

I think the bad teams will win because 0% pitching (which this will likely come to around playoff time) will get shelled by Little Leaguers in this sim, especially when given little in the way of help from their defense. A fatigue team is going to have to be very careful to keep some usable pitchers in the 60s-70s to have a chance...

Had the pitching been a non-factor I probably would've gone for the fatigue teams...

I think it wil be a very balanced league depending on how the teams are managed. If the fatigue teams play it just to win then I think they have an advantage (using the classic fatigue strategy). However, if the fatigue teams play it straight and try to win they should be able to keep their whole staff in the 70% range, at worst. From my small sample of two test leagues pitchers with around a .220 OAV, WHIP of 0.95 and BB/9 of 1.00 will finish up around .275/1.35/1.90 depending on ballparks and normalizations; which is very close to the stat lines the bad teams are starting with (though my team has a much better starting line than the one above, but they'll also be pitching into the 70% range). I expect the fatigue teams to jump out to a quick lead and then fade down the stretch, but they should still be just competitive enough.

From my research... It's gonna be pretty close, with probably a 55/45 bias TOWARDS the fatigue teams.

Next time make it a bigger league with more teams biglenr: I had worked to put together what I think was a nice, plausible fatigue team with a network of complex tandems, lots of IP/G to help make starters and relievers interchangeable, platoons, etc. to try to max out the few IP and PA ...well, next time hopefully there will be more places available.
4/17/2013 5:49 PM
Sorry about that... I didn't expect such interest.  It's going to be interesting.

AS it is, one owner left.   I need a bad team to play.  I could accept a fatigue team by switching another willing owner.  Please let me know if anyone is interested

By the way... Some strategies can well mitigate the early season advantages that fatigue teams will have, and I think the experience level of the owner and how well he drafts and manages his team will be key to success for either types of teams.

Something else that crossed my mind, that makes it harder to judge is that we see a guy at 80% and we think "oh gosh, he's at 80% how is he doing so well!?" But we forget that a number of those appearances were at 100% or in the 90% range.... He's at 80%, but when you compile all of his performances his average fatigue was probably somewhere around 90-95% (depending on how many 100% appearances there were). So, realistically, he's played at that average percentage and not at the percentage he's finished at.
4/22/2013 2:30 PM
That's true and also a good point j4m...the whole of his PAs were not at that 80% mark. But you can also click on the player and look at his last 10 games. When I do that, I often do not see major dips as you would expect for a fatigued player.
4/22/2013 2:35 PM
And away we go... first games are tomorrow.

My prediction:  Fatigue teams go on 30-40 game season opening tear.... teams are roughly equal for another 70-80 games.... Then bad teams go on end of season tear, and dominate in playoffs.
4/23/2013 10:10 AM
Small sample size, but 5 games in only 1 of the 8 bad teams has a winning record (3-2). All 8 fatigue teams have a winning record.
4/25/2013 2:08 PM
After 8 games... One bad team has a 0.94 WHIP (incredible, real live WHIP's must be over 1.40) and one bad team has a winning record.  Fatigue is just starting to kick in for the fatigue teams.  Now we see how they do.

Many people have said that fielding is the first thing affected by fatigue. At our 8 game mark (everyone 100% so far) here is a SMALL SAMPLE baseline of the current fielding of the league.

After 13 games.... Fatigue is starting to make the short IP and PA teams suffer a bit....The 2 best records in the league belong to "bad" teams, and the bad teams are leading both mixed divisions.

Injuries are playing a toll... One owner who thought to sacrifice a player to safe some of his staff saw 4 injuries in a single game....

Half of my team is in "Red" fatigue status.

Fielding effects after 17 games (now that Damp is off) - fatigue teams have fallen to below the league average for the most part.

So far, the normalized "bad" players are doing pretty well (note the 1894 pitchers and 1968 and 1907 hitters) and that proves that normalization is important. Other than that, the fatigue players are still leading in a majority of the categories.
