Promised Sophomore Start Topic

Man getting old sucks....I should know this answer but can't remember nor can I locate it via forum search!

John was promised a sophomore start but is starting as a freshman since he converted to another position.
There is a current redshirt who will start at that position next season so that means John won't be starting there his sophomore year.
Will John view this as a broken promise next season?

Things that make you go hmmmm.

Yes! A broken promise is a broken promise.  You still have to start him.

Things that make you go hmmm.... John breaks his leg first game of his sophomore season and is sidelined for 10 games. John doesn't start because of injury - he will berate you for breaking your promise to him and drop work ethic.....

Wrong. See what happens when he is like 30% effective and you don't play him.

Revoke his scholarship and quit worrying.

Wrong. If a player is injured and his status is listed as 'Injured, returns after ...', any promised PT or Start is put on hold. If the player is hurt - less than 100% health but still able to play (there is no 'Returns after...'), you need to fulfill the start promise, but any PT promise is pro-rated based on the level of his health. So if a player was promised 50% playing time and is Health is at 90%, he only needs to be in 45% of the plays in order to have the promised fulfilled.  I've had players, including this season, who were promised starts, who were unable to play due to injury (for this season, the player was out for 4 games), and not one complained about missing starts.

Not sure where you're getting '30% effective' from, even with a fairly lengthy injury, I haven't seen a player's Health below the low 80s.  Even way back when, I never saw a player below the mid-60s.
