1 Opening in 1985/86 1986/87 Prog-filled!! Topic

We have 1 opening for a double season progressive that started with the 1967/68 & 1968/69 seasons, the first two years of the ABA. We will soon be starting season 10,1985/86 & 1986/87. We are currently posting keepers, season 9 ends today after which the playoffs take place. The draft will take place after a replacement owner is found, all keepers are posted and I have completed the available player list. My desire is to start the draft no later than April 17 . Each season you will be able to select which of 2 seasons you want to use for each of your players (assuming they are active both seasons). The upcoming season (10) you may use 1985/86 or 1986/87, the following season (8) you will be able to use 1987/88 or 1988/89 etc.

The double season format lends itself to dramatic turnarounds. The Seattle Supersonics went from 17-65 in season 1 (league worst) to 71-11 in season 2 and the league championship (aided by the draft of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). The Supersonics were 68-14 in season 3 and then declined to 28-54 in season 4. My Portland Trailblazers went from 66-16 in season 1 and the league title (led by Wilt Chamberlain) through a steady decline to 28-54 in season 4. The Toronto Huskies went from 19-63 in season 3 to 67-15 in season 4 (their #1 draft pick was Moses Malone). The San Antonio Spurs  went from 54-28 in season 7 to 29-53  in season 8.

No rookies, no WW. Trades of players OK and draft picks one season in advance only.

Drafts subsequent to the initial draft will be in inverse order of regular season record, with the tiebreaker being total point differential (points scored less points allowed) with the team with the worse point differential drafting earlier.
However, as an anti-tanking provision for the 1st round only there will be a weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record for the first 4 draft positions. The same tiebreaker will be used for these positions.

Since this is a progressive league I do request that you not sign up unless you expect to be able to particpate for at least 5 seasons.

If interested please sign up below and you will be given temporary access to the private forum. You will need to post a keeper list for season 8 as soon as possible after you have reviewed the team's roster and decided which players to keep.

Jordan, Bird, Cummings. Pierce and Stipanovich should be starters in season 10 (1985/86 and 1986/87). Anderson, Huston, Oldham and Wilson should probably be useful subs.

Norris retired after the 1984/85 season and Ronnie Lester should certainly be cut. Michael Holton is of marginal value in season 10 but could be useful in season 11, so a new owner will need to decide whether to keep him.

The first task of a new owner will be to post keepers for the team.

Jordan still has 6 seasons left in the double season format as a regular, Bird,Cummings and Pierce all have 4 seasons left  so this team should be a playoff contender for some time yet.
