Is my only option an ineligible? Have any of you succeeded in getting an eligible guy who is local to play for you for less than $500? If so, how did you do it?

It's usually pretty easy to sign guys for a $110 start/scholly special, course you'd better be winning to start him.

The short answer is clearly yes. Higher prestige will help of course. If you don't want to start someone, you could try to find a local guy for whom at least an HV and scholly is within your budget as that's probably the highest likelihood for you at getting someone to sign. It's not impossible to sign guys for even less.

Ignore the eligible/ineligible factor. 

Home Visit + Scholarship.  I was able to sign someone for less than $500 using just that on the last day of recruiting.  So it's possible. 

you can sign guys for under 200 - scholliie, plus some phone calls or plus a promise of a start or some minutes

schollie plus start is the classic 110

I signed four players for like like $1200 one time....

Wait to the end, see if there is a local kid worth having.  Go HV + Scholarship (or ST + Scholarship if you need 2) and you'll get him.

Thanks guys! It worked. I got 2 strong players for a little under $500 each and had enough to throw a classic 110 plus 20 extra at an ineligible D2 pull down... he hated me.  But, hey, after that recruiting scare, I will take one walk on willingly. Thanks for the help.

I am pretty sure I once got a guy with just a phone call and scholarship offer.  He was career backup but nothing wrong with keeping those guys around for 4 years.
