Yarnell Invitational 65 Topic

Sorry. Out of town for Fathers Day. Spent whole day watching US Open with my dad and driving home the 4 hour drive.

Home teams push their record to 11-1. Home court was never more important than in the U of Indy / Harding game. Harding let 54-48 with 2:54 to go and U of Indy goes on a 13-0 run to close the game. Harding hit a meaningless 3 at the buzzer.

Here's the Tie-breaker rules...

Rule 5. BASKETBALL TIEBREAKER RULE - ALL CLASSES
A. If two teams are tied from regular season conference play,
tiebreaker procedures will be:
1. Head to head in regular season conference play.
2. If the two teams have split, margin of victory between the
two teams, with a maximum of 10 points per game.
3. If the two teams are still tied, all winning conference
game points, with a maximum of 10 points per game.
4. Forfeited games. Offended teams shall receive 10
points when tabulating the sum of the winning margins
for breaking conference ties.
5. If the two teams are still tied, a coin flip by the Arkansas
Activities Association's Executive Director will decide
seeding.
B. If three teams are in a three-way tie from regular season
conference play, tie breaker procedures will be: Head-tohead
competition. If one team has been defeated by one of
the other teams twice, they would be eliminated. The two
remaining teams would go to step two listed above for two
teams that are tied. If step two does not break the tie, step
three would follow, then step four.
C. If three teams are tied and each team has split (or a perfect
triangle), tiebreaker procedures will be: Margin of victory in
all conference games, with a maximum of 10 points per
game.
D. After tabulating the sum of the winning margins, all teams
except the two with the greater sum shall be eliminated and
the selection process shall begin again with paragraph (A).
E. If four or more teams were tied, the margin of victory in all
conference games would be used, with a maximum of 10
points per game. Head-to-head competition would decide
the two teams with the most points. If these teams had
split victories, margin of victory between the two teams,
with a maximum of 10 points per game.
F. If the two teams remain tied, the team with the most total
points would receive the place for the first team (if both tied
with the same number of points, a coin toss would be used
to decide the first team). This procedure would continue
until all places were filled.

4 teams are tied, go straight to E again... In fact, I did it wrong last time... the rule says margin of victory in ALL games... not in ALL wins.

Margin of Victory in ALL GAMES (chopped at 10)
Longwood 10 + 10  + 1 = 21
U of Indy 4 + 4 + 10 = 18
Seattle 8 + 5 + 3 = 16
Harding 10 + 10 + 10 = 30

Harding and Longwood have highest point totals

Head-to-Head
Harding beat Longwood

Champ: Harding
Runner-up: Longwood

Harding is the champ with Longwood runner-up. Tie-breakers are based on WINNING margins not LOSING margins.

In the 24 seasons of doing this, we didn't need a tie-breaker until last season. Then we needed one two years in a row. I'm just glad when I screwed up the tie-breaker last year that I named the correct champion.

This was a bizarre yarnell. My team was terrible in our two losses, and not so impressive in the wins, but we were tied for the lead at the end.

you had 2 +10's?!? I'm with you though. I see a shift in home court advantage in the engine.

Proof in point. I just beat #1Valdosta who's been blowing out everyone with ease... at home.
