Newbie question

I'm an AL team...when I play NL teams my pitcher bats 6 th...no idea why nor how to change it...

Check your lineups for "No DH" - you probably have a regular player slotted in the 9 hole instead of the 6 hole.

The pitcher always bats in the open slot in the batting order.

Would you ever consider batting your pitcher 8th if your 9th hitter is a light-hitting lefty and your 1-3 hitters are all lefties and you're going up against a Right-handed pitcher with a 50-60 vL?

I've done it. Especially if my 9th hitter is a good baserunner with a lot of speed.
