All of my teams are National League.  Just recently I have started carrying one big bat(DH type) on the bench to use for pinch hitting.   Do you think this is a good strategy?

Here are a few examples.  (They are all putting up monster numbers in the pinch hitting role)

DH JJ Kramer    .377 avg, .472 obp, .997 ops, 61AB thru 94 games

C Robert Sparks
.400 avg, .422 obp,  .997 ops,  40 AB thru 62 games

If you've got the roster flexibility, sure.

I do it when I can.

I like to have at least one good pinch hitter (switch hitter or 1 from each side of the plate), at least 1 good pinch runner, and 1 or 2 defensive specialists.

Do you carry 30 or 31 on your BL roster?

More and more, I'm carrying 14 position players on my BL team. And I tend to own NL teams more often than AL. So that gives me 6 players off the bench, which usually gives me plenty of flexibility.

If you have the 2nd catcher, the supersub "ninth man", and the utility glove, a couple of bats who can play first or RF in a pinch (per MikeT23's any statue can play RF) can fill the PH roles and still run a 12 man staff.

The statues have to have decent arms.   The 30/32/31/40 "not quite a 1B" types don't work.   The 8/22/71/70/25 "not a C" types do.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Kenneth Simpson is a good example.   He was brought back just to PH and maybe play a little RF when Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Kevin Ryu starts to fatigue.

I have been noticing it seems that the negative plays are mounting more than they used to with the C in RF.

Of course they usually get plenty (comparatively) of assists also, though IDK how much that offsets 12-15 minus plays...

I don't know that it's exactly true but I have noticed SOME C/RF getting more negatives.    Last season, Ryu was worth it, Simpson was not.
