1963 Angels or Phillies: FULL! Topic

One of two teams is available for the 1963 season in the Real Life Progressive League: the Phillies (just picked up P Denny McLain in the 1st round) or the Los Angeles Angels (selected 2B Ron Hunt).  We are about to start the second round of the draft.

This league ran from 1980-2012, and just restarted in the 1962 season with each team able to keep any player from that year that they wanted.  For that reason, the 1963 teams will look very close to real life.  There are 20 teams in the league, with 4 divisions and no wild card.  We will expand in 1969.  Seventeen of the eighteen owners have been in the league for a long time, and the eighteenth is very familiar with progressives.   That's not to say you can't join if you are new to progressives, but it's an indication of the stability of the league.  I'm happy to coach you through the progressive process as long as you are committed to a few seasons.

This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available for drafting that season in the first round.  In other words, in 1963, Tommy John, Joe Morgan and Denny McLain are "Prospects" and can be drafted (they started their career in 1963 but were not WIS eligible).  They will join any players you have on the DL until they are WIS eligible.  Draft order is based on reversed standings at game 120 (with a minimum wins rule).  Draft slots are based on your number of keepers.  Keep 20 and you get 5 draft rounds.  If you select a prospect in the 1st round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft, which occurs after the normal draft is finished.  The rest is pretty standard.

Our draft is underway!  We selected  selected P Denny McLain for the Phillies in the 1st round.  McLain is not WIS eligible until 1964.  The Phillies pitching staff , which is already in very good shape for 1963, looks awesome for 1965.

What teams are left ? All 3 or just the Phiilies..?
5/19/2013 8:37 AM
All three teams are remaining as we close out the 1st round of the draft.  Here is who has been taken for the three teams:

Phillies: P Denny McLain (not WIS eligible until 1964)
Angels: 2B Ron Hunt
Braves: OF Rico Carty (not WIS eligible until 1964)

Note that prospects (players who started their careers in 1963, but weren't WIS eligible that year) are only allowed in the 1st round, so the draft will be "normal" progressive league format for the remainder.
