What's the most you've ever spent on a recruit, by position, at DIA? I've been in the lower divisions for a while, but I had a memorable battle with Georgia Tech when I had Auburn where I spent over $100k on a QB. I'm sure all the experienced coaches have seen fights like that; I won the battle, but lost the war as the rest of my class tanked. How much is too much?

It really depends on the recruit.  There are some players that are true outliers that merit spending 100K.

Prior to the recruiting money rollover change (where they dock 75% of remaining funds), people used to build up large "warchests" at D-IA. I had a battle where I spent $480K on a RB and didn't win him until the third-to-last cycle.  At that point, $100K battles were commonplace.

Since the reform, I've probably battle two or three times over $100K.

I've done easily into the 50-60 k range at D1AA so I'm sure it can get  a little crazy at D-1

It does and doesn't get crazier at D1a. While it gets crazier because you have all the $$$, it isn't crazier because many/most of your good recruits are Sims who require 7-15k to knock off. So you end up spending a lot of money simply to knock off sims. You still do that at the lower levels...but not to level you do at D1a.

As for battling...1 season at OSU I fell in love with a QB in ND's (wayllander) back yard. Pretty sure I spent somewhere north of 130k. The next season a QB of almost exact same cores came up in his back yard again. Figuring he had his QB of future from last season...I went for the new guy. Over 100k later...I lost that one as well!

I spent 160k on an STL DB one season when I was at Louisville.  I had something like 18 open scholarships so the rest of my class ended up at least reasonable.  I usually try to avoid those kind of battles, though.  In my opinion, no player is worth that much money.  As many of you will probably agree, sometimes you get in so deep that you feel like it is too late to turn back.

100k at DIA for a stud is pretty common for the vicious battles we see in the Big Ten.... I spent 80k on a db this cycle and lost him to Michigan. (Hardknox).  I don't expect any more battles with damauler though since he beat me out for Penn State :(.

A little over $370,000 back in the day.......you youngsters have it easy now.     As gt_deuce mentioned, the new reforms place limits whereas we used to routinely carryover $500,000 to $1,000,000 while at elites.

Never spent as much as some, but at DIA I have blown 190k is the most that I rmemeber (lost the battle). I know I have spent over 150k countless times. You win some and lose some it all depends.

Never spent more than 100k but got close after dropping 110 CV's on the recruit and decided to play the war of attrition by coasting to the last recruiting cycle by just sending smaller things out.  Won that battle but I eventually got fired from that DI school by not building in the holes first and then STL players later.
