The former Wichita franchise has fallen on some hard times recently, finishing last in the NL North the past three seasons. Led by veteran catcher Jorel Russell and slugging 2B Timo Workman, there’s a few pieces on the ML roster to work with. This franchise is clearly in a rebuilding phase however, and could use an owner interested in restoring it to the glory days of yesteryear. They’ll pick 3rd in the draft this year, helping to add to the young core of prospects in the minors consisting of last year’s number one overall selection SP Yannick Reed and SS Nicky Post.

Last season the former San Antonio franchise finished 82-80, good for 2nd place in the NL South after 4 consecutive last place finishes. So there’s some talent there in the form of closer Alexander Mateo, set-up men Tito Evans and Horacio Rosado, SP Neil Chance, 1B Hades Harper and all-star catcher Santiago Uribe. They’ll have the 18th selection in this year’s draft, providing another opportunity to add a solid contributor. With the right moves in free agency, this franchise could again be a playoff contender.

Veteran C James Barrett, 2B Ajax Giles, RP Dan Mohr and SP Sammy Sosa are all in the twilight of their careers, and could be traded to contenders to add some more young talent around SP Orlando Arrojo and young 2B Davy Johnson. Or an owner might choose to try to augment those pieces with a few additions via trade or free agency and make a run for glory. They have the 13th overall choice in the draft this year.
