Maybe this isn't the sexiest resume you've ever seen, but I certainly think it qualifies.  I feel like I'm just getting caught in the same trap as last time in Tark....the "play one more season and you'll make it" when it was never happening.  It's times like these that I could really give a **** about coaching D1.  Though basically everyone is coming back, I virtually have no desire to coach this team another season.

you should join a tougher conference - we've got an opening in the Heartland... come join us for a few seasons. If you can make it here you'll do fine in D 1...

You have made the NT twice out of 7 seasons... this is very unimpressive for D2 and I don't think it is that outrageous that it doesn't qualify. If you make a few more NT's I could see you qualifying. If you can't make the NT at D2 consistently then you will get crushed in D1. Try and win a game in the NT as well.

You honestly shouldn't qualify. The losing season in season 59 is killing you. You have made 2 NTs in 7 tries and you haven't won a postseason game yet. You are probably at least 2 seasons away from qualifying for D1 unless the next one is very successful.

i agree, that resume shouldnt let you move to d1.

I figured that hitting the NT twice in 4 years was the bogey.  I made back to back NTs at Armstrong Atlantic State and got to D1...I understand that isn't the same thing that happened here, but that was in a 6 or 7 year stretch as well.  Thanks for the comments here, but I'm giving it one more season at SW Minnesota State here and either I make it to D1 or I'm out.  My roster is gonna be stacked, so we'll see what happens.  I'm rather "checked out" in Knight right now though...rightly or wrongly.

A 1st round exit 4 years ago doesn't really give you much credit though. Get there back to back and you should get a crappy D1 job.  But as others have said, if you're struggling to make the NT in D2, you're not going to fair too well in D1.

Maybe you'd be more checked in if you played some humans?  Just a thought.

FWIW, I've had a reasonable amount of D2 success in Phelan at Mount Olive...21 tourney appearances in 30 seasons...16 NT wins.  I'm not the greatest coach, but I feel like I'm slightly above average.  SW Minnesota is kind of a recruiting Siberia I think...not a lot going on in terms of recruits, especially when I'm used to the glut of the Carolinas.

I guess D1 wasn't on my mind when I took over SW Minnesota State, but it became the goal.  I'm not concerned about how well I'll do in D1, I think I'll be fine, I've won a CC before there at South Carolina State...I just want to get there.  Playing D2 more isn't going to help anyone play D1 better, because D1 is it's own ball of wax that you have to play and get accustomed to.

Maybe playing sims at D2 doesn't get you ready for D1. Get in a tough D2 conference and it will. Trust me, I've had success at both.

I've been in D1 before...

I did win a CC at D1, and again, nothing is going to prep you for D1 like D1.  You can't really say how good or bad a coach is anywhere until they've had 4 seasons under their belt at that particular school.  I was only at SCSU for 2 seasons.
