Iron Man Progressive Topic

I have been racking my brain to think of a fun theme league progressive and this is what I came up with.  Not sure if it has been tried yet.

Choose a player from Major League Baseball’s Iron Man list.  The list consists of the sixteen longest consecutive game streaks.  This is a progressive league where you will field a team every year of your Iron Man’s streak.  Season 1 is the year your Iron Man’s streak begins.  You will use the given season for your Iron Man and you can twist any of his teammates from that season (must appear on baseball reference.com roster for that year). We will go through each Iron Man’s seasons during the streak, one season at a time, until we have completed at minimum 5 seasons. Your Iron Man must use the season during his streak for the progressive season.  For example, you must use Cal Ripken Jr’s 1982 season during Iron Man season #1; his 1983 season during Iron Man season #2, etc.  Your remaining players can be twisted for any season provided they were on the roster of your Iron Man’s season.

100 M Payroll, No WW, No AAA, No Trades, No Injuries, No to DH. Use the home stadium of your Iron Man from that season. (82 Orioles would use Memorial Stadium).

50 live games to make playoffs. One player per owner.

Once the 10th season is complete, if any of the Iron Men have completed their career, we can take a vote to see if we want to continue going with the league and use alternate players, or end the league there.

I will pick my Iron Man after the 7th player is chosen.

Really??  No interest where you can twist five years of teams with Lou Gerhig, Pete Rose, Dale Murphy?  I must be missing something here?

A few thoughts:
- This is going to be very much like the Captain's League that's ongoing.
- The rosters are going to be very similar from year to year. Whoever takes Gehrig, for example, will use whatever Ruth season he prefers for 14 straight seasons. Fox's team will have 1952 or 1955 Billy Pierce every season. Garvey's will have at least six seasons of '72 Sutton, '85 Hough and 75/77 Hooton. Rose and '72 Carlton, etc. One of the challenges of progressives is building a team to compete through the ups and downs of players' careers.
- It's going to be tough filling the last few spots with the best players taken. Whoever gets Gus Suhr's Pirates and their "pitching" in Forbes is going to have a tough time until Cy Blanton comes along in Season 5.

That said, I'll take Cal Ripken

Thanks for taking a team.  This progressive can only run 5 seasons because there are about 5 players maxing 5 seasons in their streak.  It doesn't look like this will fill based on interest so far but I will keep it around for a couple more weeks to see if anyone warms up to it.  I see what you are saying about the captains league.  I am in a journeyman league that is in its 7th season and it is pretty fun.  This is similar but like you mentioned the teams in this league won't change.  Back to the drawing board for a more intriguing theme progressive.

I will play if this goes. Don't quit trying to come up with new ideas. I have run many leagues and have had many more fall flat then make it but I keep trying. In fact I am working on a new one now that is iffy to get enough owners because it is not a typical league.  It is much tougher in the live forum to get a different idea going because of the number of players

My player to be picked later

Thanks for the encouragement.  I will keep trying.  Thanks
