Can you win without "superstars"? Topic

It seems like open leagues are very superstar-driven. Almost every great team I have seen had some combination of Wilt, Jordan, or LeBron. I'm wondering if anyone has had success with balanced teams without a superstar. I'm thinking of running a team similar to this in an OL:

Name Pos GP Min Pts FGM FGA 3PM 3PA FTM FTA OReb Reb Ast TO Stl Blk PF
07-08 Steve Nash PG 81 2780 1371 485 962 179 381 222 245 28 282 898 295 53 5 113

94-95 Tracy Murray SF 25 203 88 32 80 19 45 5 8 2 22 5 15 7 3 31
TOTALS 17598 8024 2965 5901 601 1378 1493 2040 1329 4185 2115 1238 689 683 1603

Other than the high foul rate and middling free throw shooting, this appears to be a very balanced, well-built team. But no player has a salary above $6.7 million. What is everyone think? This is not necessarily a request to rate my time, just a proof of concept. I'm wondering if anyone has had success running a similar team.

Tadmand consistently has great teams in open leagues without players over 6.5 million.

I won an OL with:

Name Pos Salary
94-95 John Stockton PG $7,704,491
87-88 Kevin McHale PF $6,766,815
76-77 Bill Walton C $6,452,109
90-91 Kevin McHale PF $5,356,613
77-78 Bill Walton C $5,338,985
05-06 Gerald Wallace SF $4,885,483
11-12 Steve Novak SF $2,567,308
03-04 Charlie Ward PG $1,545,343
10-11 Goran Dragic PG $651,258
93-94 Randy Breuer C $240,602
89-90 Leon Wood SG $239,000
71-72 Larry Siegfried PG $239,000

I lost in the finals with an earlier version of this team and a newer version is currently 39-13, all with 94 Stockton being the most expensive.

It's totally doable. It would be nice to see less LeBron/Wilt/Jordans on the MVP list (granted, I'm guilty of using these guys too).

On a side note: my combination of Wilt, Jordan and LeBron finished 49-33 and missed the playoffs (somehow).

It's possible to win an OL without a player on the league all star team.

Yes.  Actually, partial season players have higher value per minute.

My Springfield Iso-Tots just finished the season first in the conference and had no one in the top 25 MVP race and only one player in the top 25 for 6th man (12-13 Drummond at #13). I did, however, have the number three and four players in the ROY list though (both C durability guys). Yay, team!
