I just bought my first team and was wondering if anyone has any idea as to if the NL has an advantage of having 1 less person to worry about in a starting lineup in regards to the salary cap?

I think he meant having a DH making a 5 or 6 million dollars that an NL team doesn't have to carry. I don't think it is a huge issue.

And my point is you're not working with one less player.   Utilize 25 roster spots.   A DH doesn't have to be a David Ortiz-type.   Good hitters can also serve other roles. 

I prefer to play in the NL. I am a traditionalist.

I personally think it is easier to build a team in the AL. If you get a prospect that is all bat and no or weak glove you can hide him at DH and still get a full season out of him offensively. In the NL you either have to suffer by playing him in the field, or only use of him off the bench.

I think its easier to play a season as an AL team.  Since pinch hitting doesn't occur nearly as often you have the luxory of having 2 guys off the bench that are there mainly for their defensive skill.  Sure you've got to pay the DH, but your bench doesn't have to be all that strong, just need a guy that can cover you defensively at SS, 2b & CF, and a guy w/ a better stick that can cover you at the corner spots to give guys rest.  Rotate those 2 guys around at different positions thru the coarse of a season and your starters should remain rested.

In the NL you're going to be using a pinch hitter 1-3 times in a 9 inning game.  You'll still need a backup SS type (which on my teams usually has a weak stick), but you've got to have competant guys that can pick up a key pinch hit or two.  So you're saving money on the DH, but you may need more money invested into your bench.  I've also found that there isn't much room for an all hit, no field kind of guy.  No where to hide him other than as a pure pinch hitter.  I definently use my bench on my NL teams more than my AL teams (injuries aside).  I find myself hoarding more specialists w/ my AL squad for the bench, while my NL teams I like guys that are more versatile.

thanks for the insight..... i looked at it from the perspective of having an additional 4 or 5 million hitter in the lineup, which would weaken my pitching.... but I guess I could just stock up on young and cheap hitters and fielders on the bench..... and go with 2 decent RPs instead of 1 more expensive RP.  I prefer the NL myself, but in the world I joined, I couldn't turn town the talent on the AL team I took over
