Winning an OL (and TOC!) in Coors Topic

After 6 months away at WIS, I decided to kick off my return with an OL team in Coors.  I'd tried to win there a couple of times in the past, with no success.

My basic idea this time was to draft very few PA and IP and use AAA/scrubs in non-essential games.  I drafted 1234 quality innings, plus a scrub pitcher.  I had a shuttle bus taking scrub pitchers to and from the WW all season long -- they made 21 starts for me and went 1-20.

I drafted 4800 PA but 1100 went to the minors with only 3700 making the team.  These PA were spread over 4 full-time (ish) positions and 3 part-time positions.  I used the hell out of my AAA hitters (a couple aren't shown below as they were traded before the deadline).

We finished the season 102-50, then went 11-3 in the playoffs.  Here are the final regular season stats for the team:

very impressive. I have tried different combos over the years and never made the playoffs

I've made the playoffs with Coors teams but always got knocked out in the first round.  This is my first Coors team, though, with really good pitching.  (And I usually feel guilty using Joss in Open Leagues, but if there's any park where it's justified it's this one.  It's those guys using him in Safeco/Petco/Astrodome who are overdoing it!)

Nice job managing fatigue and running a team with such few innings and PAs in Coors.

Congrats Crazy!

I have played Coors twice and won the WS once there.  On both teams I also drafted only 1200ip.  Details are here.

That's cool.   All these years of playing and I've still never fielded a team at Coors.   Looks like you hit the SIM jackpot with an assignment of three productive AAA players (Lipps, Rouff, and Weik); two of which had BAs over .370 and OPS of over .900.    Since you were able to use them for nearly 900 PAs, it really helped out your team.   Well done.

Coors inflated all my hitters' stats, including most of my rookies' numbers:

Blair Lipps
Coors -- .410/.454/.580
Away -- .321/.415/.383

Freddy Weik
Coors --.401/.437/.544
Away -- .256/.312/.320

Nicky Rouff, however, raked everywhere:
Coors -- .386/.456/.446
Away -- .370/.455/.467

I've just entered another OL team in Coors.  No big HR hitters this time (and no cookies -- all 8 of my hitters have been used fewer than 50 times).  And no Joss (I'm using 4 lefty starters -- two Doc Whites and two Jeff Pfiesters).  Will post an update on this team later...

Well, I've had to update the title of this thread, as this Coors OL team just won me a TOC!  The icing on the cake was sweeping an OL cookie team in the Finals -- Bip, Coleman, Dilone, Carter, Joss, Summers, Milacki, etc. in the Astrodome.

Viva la Coors!

Congrats!

Great job.  I remember last year I made it to game 7 of the TOC finals with a Coors team and lost to Dougpalm!!

Blair Lipps, heh

My most recent OL Coors team just wrapped up with a loss in the World Series.  We went 91-71 in the regular season with batters who had fewer than 50 uses in the sim (two of them, 2010 Justin Morneau and 1961 George Altman, set Performance History bests).  Our AAA bats came in handy again -- five of them were good hitters and the two who weren't had great D (the 2B had an A+/A+ rating and the C threw out 26 of 42 runners).

Things were going smoothly in the post-season until we lost the first two games of the second round.  At that point I figured I might as well burn out my stud bullpen and try to win four of the next five.  We squeaked through in seven games, but the pitching was shot for the WS -- especially after the 19-inning second game which featured my tired AAA mop holding the fort in the 17th and 18th innings before finally giving up the losing run in the 19th.

Anyway, I think I'm finished with Open Leagues for a while.  But next time someone moans about how you can't win in OLs without a cookie team in a pitcher's park, please link them to this thread!

We will crazystengel ! Great work, nice team. I have a Kingdome team in an OL now, currently 6-2 at the start of the season. We will see if I can reproduce - or even excel - your results.
