Why does this guy underachieve? Topic

I play in Kansas CIty +1,+2,+3, -2,-2....singles, doubles, triples, HRL, HRR.

I feel like this guy should be hitting .320, with a 1.0+ OPS every season. Instead he has a career average OPS of .834.

I bat him in the cleanup spot all the time.

Am I missing something here, is he just not meant to play in my park? And if that is the case then why does he hit considerably better at home?

His walks look right. His slg:avg ratio looks right for his power rating and your park. The only thing that's off is his avg. I would tab him as a .300 hitter not a .320 hitter, but he's still way off. The only obvious things he lacks are bunting skills and an even spray chart. I have a hard time believing that accounts for a 40pt drop in avg, but I don't have any other clues for you. After 4 seasons you'd think he'd come around.

In real life those two things when paired together can produce bad results. One of the ways to keep extreme shifts honest is to drop a good bunt occasionally, but I don't know that the sim is that complicated. Could be though!

He should be hitting better.   I don't know about that 1.000+ OPS with a 71 eye but, as a LH hitter, I'd expect over .900 and, depending on the pitching in the world, possibly .950 on a regular basis.    I'd expect something along the lines of 280/350/550 for a career.

Is he facing an abnormal amount of LHP?

S 24  210Abs vs lefty but hit 281 against his season 269avg
S 25  251  with a 267 avg  ...overall avg 271
S 26  210 Abs- .276 avg   overall avg .258
S 27 139 Abs so far.....187 vs lefty   vs season avg of .236

Most seasons he hits better against lefties, this season is pretty drastically down but that should turn around....its at the point where I almost feel like I have to change parks or try and trade him in a 1 on 1 swap for somethign similar but man this guys too good to be under performing like this.

The park isn't the problem.   I used KC before and my hitters did fine.    He is facing an abnormally high number of LHP(should be around 34-37% and he's facing them 40% of the time) but he seems to be doing well enough against them.    His OPS should be about 60-70 points higher at a minimum unless you're a pitching heavy world.   Or a world full of pitcher's parks.   And the PP might be right as you've said he hits much better at home.

12 pitching parks, 1 neurtral...with 5 being in the same league as me, St Louis, -2-2-1-1-1, Wichita, -3-2-3-3-1, Oakland -1-2-2-1-1, Tampa, -1,0,1,0,-1, NY, 0,-1,-1,0,0,0

I do think there is an abnormal amount of elite pitchers, many of which are in the American League with me.

Richie Brinson doesn't even come close to other league leaders, many of which are on my team, heck he's basically league avg, .261, .326, .416, .743

The key thing here is that he's very young-- he actually performed close to his ratings (park adjusted) in seasons 24 and 25, when his ratings were much lower than now.  So he only has a season and a half of underperformance.  And the park doesn't do his 99 power any favors... hang in there, he'll get his OPS into the low 900s from now forward, I think.

nice catch there dedelman.  I don't know how others figure it out, but if I can figure out a guy's average, his OBP, SLG & OPS typically follow predictably based upon his skill set.  Based upon his current average, his OBP and SLG are "in line" w/ what I'd expect, the AVG however looks lower than I'd expect.  That is your question, why is that guy not hitting for a better average?

I've found that guys that are slow (28 speed in this case) can under perform at times. Probably not this much but one more factor to throw in.

Dedelman's got it....about him being young and his numbers were considerably lower for a couple of seasons.  I would peg him at .300-.360.-550, maybe a bit lower (because of his speed and pure pullhitting ability) over a number of seasons and a peak that would be another level higher, or so.
